| LABOR DAY |

Today we celebrate Labor Day, a national holiday that was established 1894 in recognition of the American workers' achievements and contributions.
All of us make these contributions in one form or another. Often the work requires the use of our hands. Our hands are a very complex part of our body with approximately 27 bones, 17 mobile joints, and 40 muscles. Hands have the ability to grasp, hold, receive, give, provide comfort, take an oath, and play an instrument. They can be the eyes to the blind and the ears to the deaf. They are able to feel texture, dimension, and weight. Our hands are used to write poetry, create art, and a multitude of other possibilities.

HALO (HELPING ART LIBERATE ORPHANS)

Kansas City's Halo Learning Center was on the front page of yesterday's newspaper in the Kansas City Star. The Halo Foundation's mission is to empower youth in the greatest need to become contributing members in their community. One aspect of their programs is helping children here in Kansas City through art therapy and other creative uses of their hands.
