ARE YOU A FOREST FIRE FIGHTER?

Do you often feel that your job is that of a fire fighter?   Do you often feel that your job is so overwhelming and that you are putting out fires on a daily basis?  It feels like a fire fighter tossing a bucket of water on a forest fire.  This can be a challenge for most people and holds them back in their personal lives and careers.

THE 4-D SOLUTION TO BEING A FIRE FIGHTER

In his book The Power of Focus, Jack Canfield offers a 4 option approach to dealing with the challenge of being overwhelmed.

1.  Dump ItYou can simply say I choose not to do this and be firm about it.
2.  Delegate It.  Ask yourself who else could do this.
3.  Defer It.  Put it on your calendar to review at a certain date in the future.
4.  Do It.  If it's important and needs your attention, then just get started and do it.

EXERCISE

This week I invite you to do the following:

1.  Dump It.  Dump one thing.
2.  Delegate It.  Delegate one matter to someone.
3.  Defer It.  Defer one matter to a future date .
4.  Do it.  Begin doing one project that is important.
