HABITS

A key component of success is developing positive habits. I am defining habit as a behavior done so repeatedly that it becomes automatic.

IDENTIFYING SELF-LIMITING HABITS

Here are some self-limiting habits that can keep you from attaining greater success:

Not planning your day

Not organizing your work space or files

Not being prepared

Arriving late for meetings or social occasions

Not setting realistic expectations of yourself or others

Not delegating

Not asking for help

Not getting enough sleep

CONSIDER LONG-TERM CONSEQUENCES OF SELF-LIMITING HABITS

At first some of our self-limiting habits may seem inconsequential; but in the long run they can have a serious impact. For example, the habit of arriving late for meetings or social occasions can cause stress, guilt, or embarrassment. It can fracture a personal relationship or cause the loss of a business opportunity or a business relationship.

EXERCISE

I encourage you to spend some quality time in doing this exercise. It is challenging to honestly look at your self-limiting habits. Here's the exercise:

  1. Identify and define 3 habits that are holding you back.
  2. List specifically the negative consequences.
  3. Come up with an idea of how you can change or eliminate that habit.

I regularly coach people in helping them achieve successful habits. I do not judge you or your habits. Instead, I listen and together we create a specific strategy for success.

I look forward to hearing from you.
