CONNECTION-THE 2ND STEP TO PEAK PERFORMNACE

In the last issue we discussed connection and its benefits to you and your organization

CONNECTED PEOPLE CREATE HAPPINESS IN THE WORKPLACE

Dr. Hallowell's research shows that a happy person (one who enjoys a positive and happy state of mind) has the crucial element for achieving the best for herself/himself and the organization.

A SOURCE OF HAPPINESS REVEALED

Dr. Hallowell has interviewed many happy people and asked them their secret. The answer was that they had a connection to someone who really believed in them and acknowledged them. It was typically a parent, a coach, a teacher, a partner, a spouse, or a manger. In nearly every case, it was the connection with the person or a group of persons that created the happy person.

BEING CONNECTED AT WORK

Dr. Hallowell says that helping a person be connected at work is the most difficult of the five elements in the Cycle of Excellence (reaching Peak Performance). Helping a person find and stay connected makes a great impact on the individual and the organization.

THE BENEFITS OF A WORKPLACE FRIEND

Research by the Gallup organization shows that having a close friend at work is a major factor in achieving superior performance. His research shows that a person who has a close friend at work is 7 times more likely to be more positively engaged in her/his career. Tom Rath Vital Friends (Washington, D.C.:Gallup Press 2006)

EXERCISE

This week I invite you to do the following:

  1. Interview one happy person and ask them if they are happy most of the time and ask them how they got to be that way.
  2. Notice and acknowledge people as you pass them during the day.
  3. Make a friend at work or help someone else make a friend at work.

Friends at Work

'what do you think?'"
