HARVEST DEFINED

harvest |ˈhärvist|: (noun) the process or period of gathering in crops, the season's yield or crop.

THE HISTORY OF THANKSGIVING

In 1863 the U.S. was embattled in the civil war. There was horrible bloodshed and division within the country and within many families. With this backdrop, President Lincoln issued a Proclamation for a national day of THANKSGIVING. He had the courage to ask Americans to celebrate a Harvest festival. So, despite any challenges facing any of us, we're still called on Thanksgiving Day to express gratitude.

EXERCISE

I invite you to reflect on your year's HARVEST.

  1. What has your harvest yielded this year within yourself, your family, your career, or in other ways?
  2. Please list three things for which you are thankful.
  3. I recommend you express this gratitude at your Thanksgiving table. For some this might be a new ritual or it may feel uncomfortable. Go for it!

I really want to hear your experience of doing this exercise. Thank you

"I invite my fellow-citizens and every part of United States, and also those who are at sea, and those who are souljourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday in November as a day of thanksgiving and prayer..."

-Abraham Lincoln-from the 1863 Thanksgiving Proclamation
