Pastoral Reflections by James Lamkin I'm Proud of You...
I'm Inviting You... I'm Alerting You: Arrive Early! Long before I arrived at NDBC, you already had stepped to the plate as a founding church of the Alliance of Baptists. Now, twenty-five years later, we have the opportunity to host the outfit we helped start.
I'm proud of Barbara Atchley who has wrangled us. She's gotten us, and our church plant, ready for the 370+ folk who are coming this weekend. She has had many lieutenants. Northside Drivers have painted, fixed, scrubbed, cleaned, trashed, repaired, upgraded, recruited, and volunteered to be hospitable to Alliance attendees. Thank you. I'm proud of Ruth and Armand Kramedjian who've opened their home for a reception of 100+ people for fun and fund raising. I'm proud of our staff. All have put in extra hours and effort printing, polishing, and putting up with my anxiety attacks. I'm inviting you. There's worship, multiple workshops, and of course, Bible Study. Get Baptists together, and you're gonna have Bible Study. Sunday morning's 11:00AM worship will be holy and whole. We'll have 400+ present. In the choir loft will be the combined choirs of NDBC and Oakhurst Baptist. Rev. Dr. Mahan Siler from Asheville, NC, will preach. He's about 80 now, and has been a friend and mentor to me for 22 years. AND...BE EARLY! For a lot of Northside Drivers, just "being" is tough enough, much less being "on time." But on April 19, be ahead of time. Church School will be in the Chapel. With this number of folk attending worship, parking will be a challenge and we may run-out. We'll have two cops (just like the big churches!) at the two street entrances helping with traffic. If you are an NDBC volunteer, you can park in front of the Chapel on the paved part or on the Chapel lawn. Also, there will be parking along the Chapel driveway. However, these are tricky one-way areas and rain is predicted; so park prudently and don't block anybody. Plus, there will be parking on the paved part of the baseball field area; however, do not park on the baseball field itself. There's a thousand more things to say; but, I've got to go polish the chalices for the Saturday afternoon worship service using the Baptist liturgy from our friends in the Republic of Georgia on the other side of the world. Bless be these ties that bind; and God bless you for all of the above. |

An Update on Richard Willingham
As you will recall, in February we told you that Richard Willingham, who has served as the Custodian at Northside Drive for the last 17 years, had developed a debilitating illness that has affected his autoimmune system. As a result of his illness, we reduced Richard's work commitment from 40 hours per week to 12 hours per week. In late March, Richard gave us a copy of a letter dated March 20 from his primary care physician. The letter stated that Richard is currently restricted to sedentary work and that his condition is expected to last at least 12 months. As a result of his doctor's letter, we have placed Richard on medical leave until the end of this year.
In February, we asked members of the congregation to make a special contribution to help Richard replace, at least in part, some of the income that he is losing as a result of his inability to continue to serve as the Church's Custodian. Many of you have already made generous contributions to this special fund. We are continuing to accept contributions to help Richard. If you have already made a contribution, please know that your contribution is greatly appreciated, and please consider whether you are in a position to make an additional contribution. If you have not made a contribution and feel that you are able to do so, please write a check to Northside Drive Baptist Church and designate on the check that it is for the special bonus fund for Richard Willingham.
Richard has been a loyal and dedicated employee of our Church. I know that he and his family greatly appreciate the generosity of our congregation.
~ Walter Grant, Chair, Personnel Committee
