New Director of Children's Choirs
Mary Lou Swann is excited to join the NDBC music ministry as Director of Children's Choirs. Growing up in North Carolina, Mary Lou sang in the children's choir program at First Presbyterian Church, Kinston. When not involved with church activities or musical theater, she could be found in the pool where she was a year-round competitive swimmer or at the piano bench practicing classic al piano.
A music graduate of Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC, Mary Lou also earned Kodály certification in music education from the Carolina Kodály Institute at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. Mary Lou currently directs two fourth grade choirs and is accompanist for four other choirs at Woodward Academy Lower School in College Park, GA, where she has taught since 2004. While at Woodward, she has also taught students in grades 3-6.
Prior to being a teacher, Mary Lou enjoyed a 12-year career in marketing and sales with Disney Channel/ABC Cable Networks Group (Walt Disney Company).
___________________________________________________
At Northside Drive, Mary Lou will be overseeing the Cherub Choir (preschool/kindergarten), which will meet in room 103 and be directed by Amanda Gregg, and Mary Lou will personally direct the Celestial Choir (grades 1-5), which will meet in room 116. These choirs will begin rehearsing during the morning church school hour on Sunday, September 7.

Fall Wednesday Night Bible Study
Suffering and Glory: A Study of 1 Peter Led by Cyndi Vander Ven September 10-November 19 @ 6:30 PM, Room #202 The Apostle Peter wrote this epistle to a church facing serious trials. Understandably, they focused on the suffering that had beset them. At times, we also have difficulty with spiritual myopia: the inability to see beyond the immediate to the glory God promises. Are suffering and glory only the provenance of persecuted churches? Just what does Peter describe as suffering? What glory does he reveal, and is it meant for us? What is to be our focus? And just where does the "name it and claim it" gospel fit into Peter's story? Follow the thread of these two themes throughout 1 Peter and see how the grace of God is revealed in both.
