Everyone Walks Their Own Camino...
Just because you've been down the same path, doesn't mean it is the same path. Right?
A country dirt road on an early autumn afternoon without a cloud in the sky accompanied by a slight breeze tossing leaves---well it doesn't get any better than that!
However, take the same country dirt road in the winter during a rainstorm at night---and it is a very different place. Same geography; but not the same.
On a beautiful Camino day this past spring, I enjoyed the morning's pilgrimage up a hill, over a ridge, and into a valley, escorted by the warm sun and a gentle wind. However, I paused to ponder a footprint on the path. Two days before, a fellow pilgrim, wearing a boot like mine, passed this same way. But, it wasn't the same. The path I walked was dry and hard and stable. However, when my predecessor walked it, it obviously was wet and muddy and his boots sunk and stuck with each step in the muck. He had walked the same path; but on the day he walked it, his experience was different.
Thanksgiving Day comes next week. We've all made it anothe year. Yet, for each of us, it has been a different year. From grief to relief, loss and gain, endings and beginnings, fear and hope. We have all waked the same calendar year; however, each of us has lived a different year during that time.
So when we offer care and say intercessory prayers we are conscious of the individuality of our brother's and sister's journey. We treat one another with compassion. Though we all walk down the same roads, they are not the same. Everyone walks their own Camino. |
Thank You Note from James and Liz Lamkin
My father, JM Lamkin, often said, "Thank you for being kind to us." Liz and I need to say the same. The folk of NDBC have been so kind to us as you grieved alongside us. The death of my best friend, Rev. Chris Graham, followed by the death of my mother, Mildred Lamkin, just a few days later, were a one-two-punch that laid me low. You have sent memorial gifts, you've sent flowers, the Care Team and others have brought food, and many, many cards with wonderful words have graced us.
You made it possible for Barbara Atchley to come to the funeral...bearing the love of NDBC with her. Liz and I felt buoyed by your care.
Plus, there was the simple and beautiful Memorial Service for my mother in our chapel when I returned from Louisiana. I think Susan Dew birthed the idea and Rev. Mike Gregg choreographed it. Turns out, I needed it more than I knew; and you were not surprised.
Again, "thank you for being kind to us." You are a good gift of God. To you and to God, we give thanks.

Sales begin Sunday, November 25
Our Annual Poinsettia Altar will be in place Sunday, December 16, and remain through Tuesday, Christmas Day. Each poinsettia plant is only $20, and order envelopes are available in the Narthex for your use (simply fill it out & drop it in the offering plate). Or call Rose Hidlay at 404-237-8621 with the number of poinsettias you wish to give, the memorial details, and mail your check to the church office. The deadline for orders is December 9.
*U.S. tax regulations do not allow us to offer contribution credit for Easter & Christmas plants because the plants are returned to the giver. |
