Once again it's time for you to do the craziest thing-park your car in the church lot, adorn it with decorations, and then hand out candy left and right to little princesses, cowboys,
goblins and wizards! Each year we host Trunk-or-Treat for our community and friends.
We hope not just our children will come, but those in the neighborhood-plus your own kids,
grandkids, neighbors, friends and family. And grown-ups, too, of course! Hotdogs,
chips & drinks will be served for $2 per person. No reservation required! Just show up!
Mark your calendar for the Sunday before Halloween!

Mike's Memos
By Mike Gregg
A Decade of Technology
at Northside Drive Baptist Church
Jesus saves. I'm sure you have seen the old comic strip of Jesus saving his electronic information to a floppy disk inserted in his clunky desktop computer. I wonder if the next comic would say Jesus tweets? Northside Drive Baptist Church has progressed immensely in its technological capabilities since getting its first computer in the late 1990s. Not only did the church progress to word processing, electronic storage and email, but has also embraced many new forms of technology and social media.
One of the first changes in the online presence of Northside Drive Baptist Church was the renovation and redesign of the website in 2008, including a new domain name, northsidedrive.org. The church also gained the ability to podcast sermons. The Technology Ministry Team, in cooperation with technologically savvy church members, created and continues to maintain a one-of-a-kind website designed specifically for the church's unique community of artistic, thoughtful, and passionate people.
The Marketing Ministry Team designed a new logo, updated building and roadside signs, and revamped printed and electronic newsletters to complete the church's strategic branding initiatives. The purpose of this branding initiative was to make the church's message recognizable whether on the Internet or on the side of a water bottle. The Marketing and Technology Ministry Teams have worked diligently to make the church more accessible to an increasingly electronic world through a new mobile phone app and by giving out information-loaded flash drives to visiting guests in worship.
Northside Drive has also been intentionally and methodically joining social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus to better distribute important information about events and connect with a geographically dispersed membership. The church has Facebook groups for the Northside Kids Children's Ministry, the Youth Ministry, the Green Group, the softball team and the Garden Project.
Despite the Facebook blue, the Twitter bird, the fail whale, the Google colors, and the myriad of logos and marketing strategies, Northside Drive is using technology and social media to impact the world. Behind every platform, and logo, and idea...is people. And these people, called Northside Drive Baptist Church, know that God is using the church to impact a growing technological world. Northside Drive also knows that Jesus still saves, though maybe in the cloud or on a flash drive. |

Pastor's Wednesday Morning Bible Study
September 12-November 14, 2012
@ 10:30 AM in the Conference Room
Beginning on Wednesday, September 12, from 10:30-11:30 AM, in the Conference Room. I once again will offer a Fall Bible Study. This year we will study each upcoming Sunday's four lectionary texts: Old Testament, Psalm, Epistle, and Gospel. There will be study sheets distributed in advance containing each of the scriptures.
I am excited about this because the group's insights will help me prepare for the upcoming Sunday's sermon based on these same texts.

Missions Corner
Thank you from Trisha Senterfitt,
Executive Director, The Craddock Center -
"On behalf of the staff and board of directors at The Craddock Center, thank for your generous gift of knitted hats for the children in Southern Appalachia. They are going to produce big smiles and keep many ears very warm this winter. We are most grateful."
The Prayer Shawl Ministry of Northside Drive made more than 150 hats. Pictured are Ann Grant and Janet Bell who together made over 125 hats. Also contributing to the project were Susan Harlan, Mona Stines, Gail Hermance, Ruth Kramedjian, and Elaine Eassa. |
Callaway Cup Winner
Golfing NDBC'ers enjoyed a beautiful afternoon together at Wolf Creek on October 14. Tournament organizer Hal Meeks won this year's Callaway Cup for a second time in the 17 year history of the event. Aided by birdies on the 408 yard 8th (the No. 1 handicap hole) and the 506 yard par five 18th, Hal netted a 72 to best Josh Mudd by two strokes. Senior division winner was once again Theron McLarty. Longest drive honors went to Hartwell Dew, and closest to the pin to Hal (and yes, he missed the 8 foot birdie putt). Coach Stines was low gross as usual (and that refers to his score as well as one of his jokes.)
Don't miss your chance at golfing immortality-join us next fall and have your name carved on the highly coveted Callaway Cup. |

Artist in the Narthex
As a continued celebration of our 60th Anniversary over the next twelve months, we will be privileged to see the work of twelve visual artists from our congregation. We will have works by a wood turner, a painter, a quilter, a photographer, a weaver---all on a Sunday morning, before and after worship, in the Narthex. Look for the notices in the Pinnacle and the eNotes, and celebrate the visual arts at Northside Drive Baptist Church.
November 11, 2012
Garrett Ray
Garrett Ray, senior at John's Creek High School and longtime acolyte for Northside Drive Baptist Church, will exhibit his drawings and paintings in the Narthex on Sunday, November 11. We have all seen Garrett in procession, clad in red with Cross or Bible in hand, leading us into our worship service. And many of us have seen and heard Garrett as he leaned into the music from his cello, caressing our hearts with emotions that we did not know we owned.
But Garrett's first love is in the visual arts arena. Cello lessons began in the 4th grade, and Garrett has played in an orchestra every year since. His love of art, however, began much earlier and by the 7th grade he was drawing comic strips. His parents gave him animation software, and in the 8th grade he produced an animation short in Spanish. So Garrett plans to be at the University of Georgia in the fall for 2 years in the art department, and then he plans to move to the Savannah College of Art and Design for a 3-year program with a major in animation.
Garrett will play his cello---music and art are both integral pieces of the joy of his life---so we will look forward to hearing him play in the UGA orchestra or a local community orchestra here in Atlanta. But for now, come see the artwork that Garrett will display in our Narthex. It is here in this community that Garrett has been able to serve, been able to grow spiritually and physically, and he hopes that he has brought some laughter and joy to our lives. |

 NDBC Preschool's
4th Annual Silent Auction
Our 4th Annual Silent Auction will take place the week of November 5-9. Our goal this year is to raise $15,000, which will help us purchase new technology equipment and repair and upgrade some of the existing computers. The Auction is our main fundraiser during the year which enables us to offer some enrichment opportunities that tuition alone cannot cover. During the past couple of years, auction proceeds have allowed us to create a new library, purchase new furniture, display boards, and light tables, and offer Mandarin to all our 3, 4, and 5 year olds.
Here is how you can help:
-- Make a donation of an item or a service you provide, to be auctioned. We have a great list of suggestions available in the Preschool.
-- You can bid, bid, and bid! All items can be previewed on line at ndbcpreschool.org, or in person during the week of November 5. Winners will be announced on Friday, November 9, at 1:30 PM.
-- Tell others about our auction and invite them to bid along. Many cash and carry items will be available too.
The mission of the Preschool is to lay a foundation for lifelong learning in the loving and safe environment that Northside Drive Baptist Church offers. With your help we can achieve this and so much more. |
