Charlotte's Kitchen
     What's Cookin'

For Hannah and Phil's baby shower this month she asked me if I would make Pillsbury's raspberry-laced vanilla cake. It wasn't what I had planned but how can I deprive a pregnant woman from her favorite cake? I'll let you be the judge! This recipe can be found on the back of Pillsbury's Softasilk cake flour box along with a Surprise Carrot Cake. Having made each; both are worthy of spreading the love!

Happy New Year!

Wow another year bites the dust! It is amazing how fast time goes by, and I know I say that every month but undoubtedly it's true! As we all say good bye to 2013 and welcome 2014 please know that Charlotte and I want to truly thank you so much for your support, friendship and trust you place in us and our team. Without you Gurney's would not exist.

As many of you, Charlotte and I have experience some exciting and sad news over the past year. I believe that if it weren't for the valleys we would not appreciate the peaks. Some peaks for us are of course our growing family; our grandson Grant David was born last year and our second grandson is due to arrive in March! We can't wait to share all the news as soon as he gets here! As for the valleys go, I'm sure we all have lost someone we loved, and with the New Year approaching we carry their memories with us. I do know that God is who he says he is and he love us ALL. As we go forward in 2014, we can't change our past but, we are most certainly are in charge and can change our future.

Again, all of us at Gurney's want to Thank you for your continued support and we wish you a Healthy, Happy, Prosperous New Year!

Thanks!

Your friend,

Bill

* The Broad Street Parkway construction is well under way, as we look out our window we see all the construction vehicles parked across the street daily. There has not been much disruption for us up until this point but, we all know eventually there will be.  We will need you to endure the construction times with us, and when the time comes of interruption we will do everything in our power to keep it from impacting you.

* The City is thinking of moving the skate park from where it is now by the Hudson Bridge to across the street from us at the entrance to the Broad Street Parkway.  We have our thoughts on this and don't think it is the proper place for it for many reasons. If you have any thoughts on this I would appreciate if you would contact your Alderman or the Mayor's office and let them know what you think. I have not seen a notice for a public meeting on the skate park yet but, when there is one if you could attend and voice your views, we would greatly appreciate it.

* Bosch continues to offer the 6 months no interest credit program for anyone that would like to take advantage of that.

So that's why!

ABS or antilock braking system was first used on passenger vehicles in the 1980s and are widely used by all vehicle manufactures now.

When performing an emergency braking maneuver, if one of the wheels stops turning while the vehicle is still moving the driver loses control of the wheel and may be unable to steer the vehicle around an obstacle while braking.
