Two Sunday Christian Formation Offerings Begin February 1

Are You Hungry?

"Soul Feast" begins on February 1

What can help ground us in God's way of peace, honor, love, and joy?  In the weeks leading up to Easter, we will explore the spiritual practices of prayer, reflection, worship, and life commitments that can tangibly impact our spiritual growth both personally and corporately.  The essential purpose of this study is to come together to discover greater intimacy and freedom in our relationship with God.  Topics of discussion include prayer, common worship, fasting, self-examination, and hospitality.  These topics are especially timely as we approach the season of Lent!

Our guide for this study is Soul Feast: An Invitation to the Christian Spiritual Life, written by Marjorie J. Thompson.  This book is clear, concise, and extremely practical.  We'll focus on a chapter each week, and although participants are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible, each session is stand-alone, so you can jump in at any time.  Copies of the book will be available for $16.00.  (You can also purchase the book electronically. Several scholarships are available to purchase the book.  See Fr. Steve if a scholarship is needed.)  The series, led by St. Peter's clergy, begins February 1, 9:30AM, in the Guild Room.

Are You Curious?

Inquirer's Class Begins on February 1

Guests, new attenders and members, and those interested in membership or wanting to know more about the Christian faith are invited to join Fr. Steve for a three-week class beginning February 1, 9:30AM.  This class also prepares candidates for Confirmation or Reception into the Episcopal Church.

Special Called Parish Meeting
February 8

As reported to the parish at the Annual Meeting on January 18, the Nominating Committee will present a candidate to the parish for Senior Warden and a special called parish meeting will be called for election.  The Nominating Committee, chaired by Qiana Johnson, has nominated Robert Rupp to serve as St. Peter's Senior Warden for 2015 and 2016.  A special called parish meeting will be held on Sunday, February 8, immediately after the 11AM service for the purpose of electing a senior warden.  Robert's biography is printed below.  If you have any questions, please contact Qiana or a member of the Vestry.

Robert Rupp, Candidate for Senior Warden

Robert Rupp is an Associate Executive Director at the American Bar Association. Serving as senior manager for the Business Services Group, he oversees the operations of the ABA Center for Continuing Professional Development and ABA Publishing, responsible for the annual production of 200 new book titles, 80 periodicals and 350 educational programs covering the depth and breadth of the legal profession.

Robert has attended St. Peters since 2008.  He has served on the Finance and Stewardship committees, serving as Chair of both groups, and is in his second year of service as a member of the Vestry.  He lives in the Lakeview neighborhood with his partner, Robert Park, and cat Duncan.  He loves to golf in the summer, watch hockey in the winter, and cook year round.

From the Outreach Team

Feed The Crib on February 5
Working with the Youth Outreach Van, St. Peter's provides approximately 200 meals to homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. Participants meet in the Guild Room at 7 p.m. to prepare sandwiches and other nutritious foods, and then head out to the corner of Belmont and Halsted around 8:15 p.m. The evening tends to wrap-up before 10 p.m. Those interested can help with food prep, service, or both.
The next opportunity to serve with the Youth Outreach Van is Thursday, February 5, 2015.

Please contact JR Clark ([email protected]) or Melissa Farmer ([email protected]) with questions and/or to sign-up for these opportunities

Administrative Matters
Children's Formation Report
This report was inadvertently left out of the Annual Meeting Report Booklet.
It was a challenging but successful year for children's education.  Several consistent Godly Play attendees relocated, causing a test of the team's flexibility and adaptability.  On the other hand, we were able to welcome several new visitors over the year, and also started up a program within the nursery.  We also added new names to our staff roster and are very thankful for our strong team.  Although there are days when the children are absent and we currently do not have regular attenders in our Godly Play room, we are always trained and ready for class.  We also continue to have coverage for nursery-aged children if the need arises.  We are optimistic of what the Lord has in store for us in 2015!  Submitted by Caroline Ward.
