The Buzz: Articles for Every Gardener
Berry Sweet Strawberries
This week, we received an email from Tom G. asking about strawberry varieties, planting, and care. This season we are carrying four strawberry varieties: Albion (ever bearing), San Andreas (ever bearing), Honeyoye (June bearing), and Earliglow (June bearing). These varieties grow and produce vigorously and are hardy for Zone 3.

June bearing strawberries put on their crop for three weeks in late spring or early summer, can produce up to a quart of fruit per plant. The nice thing, you get a lot of strawberries all at once, making these varieties perfect for jam or jelly making.

Every bearing varieties have a much longer season and send fewer runners. They start to produce fruit in early summer and then continue sporadically in flushes through the fall. Not a ton, mind you, but these strawberries are better than any at the store.

Strawberries are best planted before July 15th. However, if planting in early spring, take adequate measures to protect your new plants from frost.

"I just want to thank all of you at Beier's for providing such an extraordinary greenhouse in our community. The first visit to Beier's each spring is a highlight of my year. The masses of color, the promise of new varieties and beautiful garden art are so exciting. I know that there is a tremendous amount of work and planning that go into creating and maintaining such a top notch greenhouse. Thank you all. I know I will see you many times this season. I can't seem to drive by without stopping in for "just a few more petunias". -Stephanie Stevens, Loyal Customer

Thank you for your time! We appreciate our customers so much.

Warm regards,
