Hello

What have you been doing as winter comes to an end?  I've been doing a little cupboard clearing, getting some early plants in for garden color, and making plans for the summer.  Thinking about cleaning the garage again...click here for some clever ways to work around the garage door.

Went to Santa Cruz for a short week and had perfect weather.  Lots of big waves and drift wood on the beach.

..........Yee Haw!

GETTING ORGANIZED in 2013

Taming the Paper Tiger

This is the time of year when we get our papers together to do taxes.  Need some advice? Well, there was a great article in the Sacramento Bee in the February 3rd Business Section about organizing paper.  I've included a link below and will give you some of the highlights here.

  • Clutter develops often because we've never made a decision about where it is to go.  Every piece of paper needs a decision: file it, act on it, or toss it.
  • Choose a filing system that works for YOU.  There are many ways to store, label, or maintain files, but none will work if it doesn't make sense to you.  Create your filing categories around the way you live or work.
  •  Designate a place for "light" reading; a basket, drawer, or shelf.  If that area overflows, it's time to start tossing.
  • Set small goals for purging papers.  Tackle one drawer, desk, corner at a time.
  • Dump the duplicates; phone books, health plan documents, etc.  With most items you only need to keep the recent copy.  Toss anything you could easily retrieve on-line.

As my good friend and professional organizer Kelli Wilson put it, "Clearing your space clears your mind".  Here is the link to this blog by Claudia Buck:  It's Time to Tame the Paper Tiger

Stop the Junk Mail and Calls

The same author had another blog post that you might find helpful.   Go to www.DoNotCall.gov to register your phone numbers.  Registering addresses at www.DMAChoice.org lets you get off most mailing lists.  Here is the complete article:
