16th October: Charity Lunch for Syrian Refugees
The Charitable Donations Committee at Saint Paul's invites the members of our community to attend a festive lunch on "Refugee Sunday", 16th October, following the 10:30 Sunday service. Donations received for the meal will go to support the work of the Anglican Alliance and i-Connect Monaco, in their care of Syrian refugees in the camps in Turkey and on the shores of Greece.
To help us plan the meal, please add your name to the sign-up list at the back of Saint Paul's Church or click here to let Mary de Vachon know that you hope to attend the lunch. If you are unable to join us on Refugee Sunday, kindly consider making a generous donation for this very worthy cause.

Bishops to preach at Saint Paul's Church
Bishop Dominic Walter OGS, retired Bishop of Monmouth (Church of Wales), will offer the sermon THIS SUNDAY for our annual celebration of Harvest Thanksgiving (25th September) during the 10:30 a.m. service. Bishop Dominic very kindly offered to preach during his stay with Father Walter, both are professed members of the Oratory of the Good Shepherd (OGS).

Bishop Dominic has particular interests in the ministry of healing and deliverance, the monastic and solitary life and animal welfare. A former chairman of the Anglican Society for the Welfare of Animals, he is now its President and is also a Vice President of the RSPCA.
Where animal welfare is concerned, Bishop Dominic suggests, "... that we need to stop and repent - to look and think again about our role in creation. If you say to most Christians, what was the great moment in the biblical creation narratives, they will say when God made us in his own image. That's wrong. It was the seventh day when God rested and the world was at peace. There is a theme in the Hebrew scriptures that tells us that we only ate meat after the Fall and it looks forward to a return to Paradise where the lion will lie down with the lamb. Our role in creation is to have dominion - not domination - perhaps stewardship is a better word - to have stewardship of creation knowing that we shall be judged for how we have cared for God's world and that includes all sentient beings."

| | Bishop Michael Marshall | Bishop Michael Marshall, retired Bishop of Woolwich, will preach at the Sunday service at Saint Paul's on 9th October. Mary de Vachon and Father Walter attended a course on the "Art of Preaching" lead by Bishop Michael, in June of this year in Rome. During the course Father Walter and Mary invited Bishop Michael to visit Monaco and to bless us with his ministry as a preacher. Much appreciated for the power of his preaching, Bishop Marshall is also a prominent author, his many books include A Pattern of Faith (1966), Glory under Your Feet (1978), Pilgrimage and Promise (1981), Renewal in Worship (1982), The Gospel Connection and Flame in the Mind (2002). His most recent book, The Transforming Power of Prayer: From Illusion to Reality, was the 2011 Mowbray Lent book. In retirement he serves as an assistant bishop in London. His "SPA" (Scripture Prayer Action) ministry was developed with the Revd Soon Han Choi, who will accompany Bishop Marshall when he visits Monaco.
