Saint Paul's Anglican Church, Monte-Carlo -- a community of Light on the Côte d'Azur
AGM last Sunday: Shortest in Memory
The Annual General Meeting* of Saint Paul's Anglican Church in Monte-Carlo took place on Sunday 24 April following a shortened Sunday service. The meeting set something of a record for brevity, closing after a session of barely 30 minutes. The assembly found little in the annual reports to question or criticise.
People's Warden Tim Humphreys (pictured above left) was able to report on the Lift Project, to install a lift to ease access to the Saint Paul's Library for seniors and the disabled. He reported that the project had been stalled for awhile in the process of gaining government approval and the necessary permits. He and Association President Frank Megginson (pictured right) met recently with planning officials and they have been assured that the way will soon clear allowing work to begin by the Autumn of this year, with completion hopefully before Christmas.

*The AGM was the meeting of the Church of England chaplaincy of Saint Paul's, Monte-Carlo, and the Monaco cultural "Association de l'église anglicane de Saint Paul" which together share responsibility for the governance of our church.  ANZAC Day in Antibes
ANZAC Dawn Service Antibes
Father Walter was honoured to assist, along with Commander Michael Healy, in the annual observance of ANZAC Day in Antibes. Observed on 25 April each year, Anzac Day was originally to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli against the Ottoman Empire during World War I.

A new tradition in Antibes, this was the fourth year in which ANZAC Day was observed with the support of municipal government and the French and British veteran associations. Members of the Australian & New Zealand Defence Forces also participated in the ANZAC Day ceremonies which took place at 5:30 and 11 a.m. on Monday 25 April at the Fort Carré.
Curate elected Bishop
Bishop-elect Bruce Myers
Father Walter travels to Quebec City next week to attend the episcopal ordination of his former curate, Father Bruce Myers OGS, on Ascension Day (5 May). Father Bruce was elected the next Bishop of Quebec last November. He  began his ordained ministry at the Cathedral in Quebec City when Fr Walter was the Dean, and went on to serve in parish and diocesan ministry. In recent years, he completed two graduate degrees in Ecumenism and served as the Ecumenical Officer for the Anglican Church of Canada.
Annual Riviera Ascension Day Picnic
" What are we Waiting for ? " Rev Bob Hurley from Grenoble

The annual ACR Ascension Day Picnic takes place on Thursday 5th May. ACR stands for Anglican Churches on the Riviera, and this well attended annual picnic, organised by our own Dani Carew, draws Anglicans from churches as far apart as Marseille and Menton. Let Dani know if you would like to attend this year's picnic and if you need or can offer a ride. Contact Dani at danicarew@gmail.com or phone her at 06 40 62 88 67

The Picnic is a  BRING and SHARE so you are asked to bring a dish of something, a salad, a savoury dish or a dessert and please bring your own cutlery and plates.  Glasses and a variety of drinks will be supplied by our hosts in Lorgues. The swimming pool will also be available for those that would like to use it.   So coffee from 10.45am onwards followed by a celebration of Ascension about 11.15am before we share at each others tables in the garden.

Worshipping and having fun in the garden comes naturally to the folk in Lorgues as their church meets there during the summer months each month. So we hope you will be able to join us   Please mark this day off in your diary as you are both welcome and needed !

We will be having a short Communion Service here before lunch  so everyone has a chance to celebrate the Ascension.  Bob Hurley,   who is I.C.S Chaplain of Grenoble , will share a few thoughts with us on this special day and its meaning for each one of us.

The rough timetable for the day is ...
10.45    Coffee
11.15    Ascension Communion Service.
12.15    Picnic  Lunch  ( Bring and Share )

After lunch you are welcome to use the pool, enjoy the garden or simply catch up with what is going on in the other Chaplaincies along the Riviera. We expect to finish by about 4.00 but there is no timetable for when you may want to head for home.

Follow all the way down 1.8 kms until you reach the little Chapel Notre Dame de Florièye and turn left onto the gravel road and the house is about 100 m back in the trees.
