Great Holy Week at Saint Paul's Church
The Crucifixion - John Stainer
Saturday 19th March at 8 p.m.
Modelled on the great passion settings of J.S. Bach, The Crucifixion: A Meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer composed by John Stainer in 1887 is amongst the most popular of all English choral works and vividly portrays the events of the Passion of Christ.
Palm Sunday
Blessing of the Palms
Place des Moulins at 10 a.m.
(Leaving St Paul's at 9:45)
The Monte-Carlo congregations of Saint Paul's Anglican Church and Saint Charles' Roman Catholic Church join together to celebrate the Blessing of the Palms, the opening ceremony in the observance of Palm Sunday in both traditions. The Blessing of the Palms takes place again in Place des Moulins and features the reading of the Gospel of the Palms, telling the story of Jesus' Triumphant entrance into the city of Jerusalem.
Blessing of the Palms_ Place de Moulins at 10 a.m.
Returning to Saint Paul's, after the Blessing and the Procession of the Palms, the focus of attention shifts to the story of the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, this year with a dramatic reading from the Gospel of Saint Luke.
Maunday Thursday Liturgy
24th March at 6:30 p.m.
Commemorating the Last Supper of Jesus on the night before he died, the Maundy Thursday liturgy begins with a ceremonial washing of hands, as Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. After the celebration of the Lord's Supper, the centrepiece of the litury, we enter into darkness of this night, stripping the altar of its finery and furnishings, leaving the sanctuary baren, silent and in darkness.
Good Friday 12 Midday
Stations of the Cross
One of the treasures of Saint Paul's Church is the beautiful collection of clerestory windows representing the traditional 14 stations of Jerusalem's Via Dolorsa (the painful way) from the place where Jesus was condemned, to Calgary and the Cross. Join us on Good Friday at 12 Midday to walk beside Jesus, pausing to meditate and pray at the 14 stations along the way, watching as he strives to bear the sins of the world and all for us!
Bishop Robert's 2016 Lent Appeal
Children at the Arab Evangelical Episcopal School in Ramallah
Click here to read Bishop Robert's Lent Appeal letter.

The Rt Revd Robert Innes, Bishop of Gibraltar in Europe, has launched his annual Lent Appeal for 2016 to support the education of Palestinian children in the Holy Land. Bishop Robert writes, (this year's Lent Appeal) "relates to our neighbouring Diocese of Jerusalem and the Middle East. Education is of vital importance in attempts to secure a peaceful future for the Middle East. ... This year's appeal supports the Arab Evangelical Episcopal School in Ramallah in the West Bank. It will help the Anglican Diocese of Jerusalem in the distribution of bursaries to needy students at the school."

Father Walter had the privilege of visiting the Arab Evangelical Episcopal School, while attending a conference in Jerusalem in 2004. His photos from that visit (above) show a class group and a picture one of the young people had drawn, representing his daily journey to the school

Kindly consider making a donation in response to Bishop Robert's appeal. Gifts will be received at Sunday services at Saint Paul's over the next few weeks, and cheques can always be sent to Saint Paul's, made out to "Saint Paul's Church" with a note indicating that the cheque is in response to the Bishop's Lent Appeal. Thank you for your support!
An evening of Victorian Choral music
Choral Concert 19th March at 20_00
Saint Paul's Church will host a truly remarkable choral concert this Saturday 19 March at 8 p.m, the Eve of Palm Sunday this year.

Errol Girdlestone will conduct the Ristretto vocal ensemble in a choral programme that features John Stainer's stunning oratoriao "The Crucifixion". Click here or on the poster (right) for a video of the St Paul's Cathedral Choir singing "God so loved the world" from the oratorio.

Stainer's much loved choral anthem "I saw the Lord" will also be performed, as will Mendelsohn's "Variations on the 6th Sonata", an organ solo that allows the full range of our newly refurbished organ to be demonstrated.

One of the features of Stainer's oratorio "The Crucifixion" is the placement of four very familiar hymns also of Stainer's composition. The Ristretto choral concert will begin with a hymn sing to warm up the audience so that we will be ready to join to sing of favourites, like the hymn, "All for Jesus."
Our newly refurbished organ at Saint Paul's Church will accompany the singing and will be featured in an organ solo. Also in the programme, the performance of Maestro Errol Girdlestone's original and beautiful choral composition "In Paradisium".
