A Night at the Circus ... Church!
The 2016 edition of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (18-25 January) was launched with an ecumenical prayer service unique in the world because of its setting: The International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo. Clergy and faithful attending the service represented a wide range of Christian traditions from along the French and Italian Riviera. Three of this year's circus festival acts participated in the service adding a dynamic lift to our collective worship!

A Rocha - Inviting Presentation
On Sunday 17 January our 10:30 Sunday congregation was pleased to welcome Jean-Franois Mouhot and his family. Jean-Franois is the director of the A Rocha International field study centre at Domaine les Courmettes above Tourrettes-sur-Loup. Founded in 1983 by Fr Peter Harris, an Anglican vicar from Merseyside, A Rocha is an international Christian nature conservation organisation. The first field study centre was set up in Portugal, hence the name which means 'the rock' in Portuguese. A Rocha now has a presence in 19 countries on five continents where it undertakes scientific studies, practical environmental conservation work and educational activities.
Domaine les Courmettes is one of two study centres operated by A Rocha France. It is a private property of 600 hectares, open to the public, with the Pic de Courmettes rising to 1248 m. Les Courmettes provides outstanding views of the Mediterranean and the Mercantour massif, and the trails on the property take hikers through forest and habitat that includes ancient oak trees dating back more than a thousand years.

Jean-Franois gave a brief overview of A Rocha and Domaine les Courmettes, and then concluded with a reflection on Psalm 36, the psalm of the day. He affirmed that the love of God can be understood in the terms of God's creation: it is as high as the highest heaven, as deep as the deepest ocean, and as solid as the mighty mountains ...

Hopefully, Jean-Franois' visit will lead to an important relationship between A Rocha Domaine les Courmettes and Saint Paul's, and many attending the service expressed the desire to visit the A Rocha site (about an hour's drive from Monaco) and get to know the work of A Rocha better, possibly sharing in some of its conservation and educational activities.
