PICNIC THIS SUNDAY AT LA GORRA: BRING & SHARE!
Irene and William Eason have very generously made their country home "LA FERME DE LA GORRA" in Saint Martin de Peille available to us again this year for our annual church picnic. The farm is very easy to find: click here
or on the photo, left, for directions.
The picnic begins with Sunday worship at 11 a.m. on the lovely open air porch of the historic farmhouse. This is followed by a "Bring & Share" picnic lunch. Bring a dish and enjoy the bounty God provides! After lunch: have a dip in the pool pool, play football on the field, or just sit back and enjoy the company of old and new friends.
Please let Father Walter know (reply to this message or call 93.30.71.06) if you HAVE ROOM FOR PASSENGERS in your car on the trip up the mountain for the picnic on Sunday 22 September.

VALERIE HAXTON REMEMBERED
A congregation made up of family and friends from Monaco and Nice gathered on Saturday 14th September at the Crematorium of Nice for the funeral of Valerie Haxton, a long time member of the Riviera English community and a member of our Chaplaincy Council.
In an article for the next edition of the Riviera Reporter, Michael Healy reports: One of the most valuable personalities in the British community on the Riviera, Valerie Haxton passed away September 10th aged 77 in Centre Lacassagne cancer hospital in Nice after many months of increasing suffering. London-born Valerie arrived here over 30 years ago from Canada with her husband Jim whom she met while working there. They quickly became involved in Church affairs, Jim as Treasurer of Holy Trinity Nice; and both took a leading part in saving that church from closure in the 1990's. More recently she was much involved with St Paul's and the Anglican Diocese in Europe. But a wider public knew and appreciated her for many years as the inspiring Chairman of the British Associations in the Alpes Maritimes - Cannes, Nice, Menton and the Var - which took her full attention after the death of her husband. Yet she still found time for much direct Welfare work in the community. Valerie is survived by her brother Albert in Nice. Cremation was in Nice on September 14th; and a Requiem service will be held for her in Holy Trinity Nice (11 rue de la Buffa) at 10h30 on Wednesday October 9th. Testimonials have flown in from many quarters including condolenceses from Bishop David Hamid and Canon Peter Allen. Hugh Mitford-Raymond had this to add to Michael Healy's comments: Valerie dedicated her life to the church and the British Association and provided help and assistance to hundreds of expatriates. Also, the kitchen you see, to this day, at the Holy Trinity Church, Nice, was installed and donated by Valerie. She baked the most wonderful carrot cake!

TELELOOP SYSTEM NOW AT SAINT PAUL'S
A "teleloop system" is now installed in Saint Paul's Church. A teleloop system allows sound to be transmitted directly from a microphone to a hearing aid (with a telecoil). People with hearing aids having difficulty connecting with the new teleloop system during services at Saint Paul's are asked to contact Mr William Brion at Monaco Surdité (93.50.56.56) for assistance in calibrating their hearing aid with the system.
