Welcome

Welcome to the Southwest Region's quarterly newsletter. The months ahead are filled with racing and other events that remind us why our region is one of the best places to be a multisport athlete.

Building on the successes of our past, we are excited to bring new programs and initiatives to the region.  You can get in on the ground floor of two exciting new programs: USAT-SW Region ambassador team and the women's commission. In addition, we continue to grow the opportunities in paratriathlon, outreach, ITU racing and 2013 brings with it a variety of exciting ways to live the multisport life.

Our region kicks off the year as we once again host ITU World Triathlon San Diego. And this is not just for the elite athletes - it's a time for all athletes to be able to run on the blue carpet - and a chance for us to show off our region with this world-class event.  In addition, this event will serve as the 2013 USA Triathlon Club National Championship. Race day is April 20th and there is still time to register!  Whether you are in a mini or mighty sized club, there are appropriate divisions for all. For more information about the club national championship, please visit USA Triathlon.

As the we bring you new programs and improve our existing ones, we want to remind you that the USAT Southwest Region is here for you - athletes and race directors, coaches and volunteers, sponsors and spectators - everyone who makes the multisport experience unlike any other sport.

As your regional council, we are here to support each of your goals and look forward to seeing you at the finish line!

Warm regards,

Charles Johanson

Committee Corner

The USA Triathlon Southwest Region Council has been very busy working in committees on initiatives and projects to serve you, the athlete members of our region.

Outreach

As the largest and most active committee in the Southwest, we need to say a personal thank you to its Chair, Eric Davidson, who continues to grow this committee and its programs.  Outreach is the primary focus of the regional council and the successes of the past year and exciting programing of the upcoming season would not be possible without Eric's leadership.

The outreach committee will grow its past programs (club outreach, club challenges, & membership rallies) and is creating two new programs: USAT-SW Ambassador Race Team and Race Director outreach.

  • Membership Rallies
This season we are increasing the membership rallies - an opportunity for members to meet and speak with a council member at races about USAT - this program raises the visibility and understanding of the importance of a USAT membership.  Stop by, say hi and meet your local regional council member - and even get some free stuff! Watch for the USAT Southwest Region banner at the Regional Championships and other key events.

  • USAT-SW Ambassador Team
Are you ready to represent your region as a part of the USAT-SW Ambassador team?  This new team will serve to showcase what it means to be a USAT member.  The team will consist of a variety of athletes from our region - from speed demons - to regular weekend warriors - the goal of the USAT-SW Ambassador Team is to represent and promote USAT in our region.
