South Holston River - Tennessee  On the South Holston river we're fishing with nymphs, streamers, and a few dry flys. Good flows over all on the river right now. Michigan
The PM hopper game is strong this year... VERY STRONG! There are plenty of Kings in the lower river, and I have even seen a few in the lights up higher and the middle river. Mousin is still the best way to conquer the larger brown trout, at any point of the day! Best part of the late season mouse fishery is NOBODIES DOING IT AT ALL!!! White Belly Mouse is still a go to pattern, but other patterns, such as frogs, leeches, and even minnow variations will fish very well too.

Bow River - Calgary, Alberta
The dry fly fishing has been very good for some - particularly with hoppers. Blue Winged Olives, and Tricos are hatching which means some working fishing as well as some action on small dropper flies like tungstud #18s, 16 and smaller copper johns in red, black, and gold, as well as other small #16 or 18 nymphs with some flash in them. Larger numbers of these should be seen in the coming days. There are also still caddis & PMD's hatching but in more limited numbers now.

It will be great up until the first frost. . Float a foam bug on top (size 8s and 10s seem to work the best) and watch the Cuts come attack your fly. . the water is starting to clear up a bit more streamers are working as well. If you want to go down deep for the big boys. . JJ's special and double bunnies are the ticket. Fewer crowds on the water this time of year so you can really key in on spots where the fish haven't been touched. I look forward in seeing you on the snake.

One Fly Competition
 LaMoyne, J.Ann, and Matt Hyde competed in the Jackson Hole One Fly Competition last weekend and had a great time! LaMoyne Hyde was awarded as the #1 non-professional fisherman in the competition scoring 709 points.  Proceeds from this event are given to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for conserving healthy populations of fish, wildlife, and plants. The One Fly had a record year for fund raising and we are proud that one of the GRAND PRIZES was a new Hyde XL Low Profile Drift Boat! (Donated by LaMoyne and JAnn Hyde).  The Hyde Drift Boats Team also competed about 1 week ago in the Green River One Fly Tournament and enjoyed being on the great Green River in Utah. Proceeds from this tournament go to Trout Unlimited. The TU works to conserve, protect, and restore cold water fisheries and watersheds all over the nation. We appreciate these organizations for their efforts to keep our fisheries strong and vibrant for the next generation. |
