Ariella Michal Medows '09
Ariella Michal Medows is a shining example of one of our bright young alumnae taking the world by storm! Michal was graduated from Ramaz in 2009 and enrolled in Macaulay Honors College (CUNY) at Lehman College campus, where she is majoring in anthropology, focusing on a career in forensic anthropology. This semester, she had the honor to be one of 16 students selected to enroll in a seminar taught by former CIA director and retired four-star general Dr. David Petraeus. This past summer, she interned as a civilian at the Joint Prisoners of War and Missing in Action Accounting Command Central Identification Laboratory, whose mission is "to search for, recover, and identify U.S. personnel mission from past military conflicts" and return their bodies to American soil and their final resting places. This military program, located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu, Hawaii, has the largest forensic anthropology lab in the world.

In between taking classes, Michal has served as President of Lehman College Hillel; volunteered on a Global Medical Brigade to Panama to provide health services to those in rural areas without access to medical care; and served as the Student Coordinator for the award-winning Lehman College Blood and Bone Marrow Drives. Over the past four years, she has served on the Scholars Council (Macaulay student government) and has won several writing awards, including First Prize in the fiction/nonfiction narrative writing category of the CUNY/Labor Arts Making Work Visible Contest, a competition open to all 540,000 undergraduates in the 24 institutions of the City University of New York.
