COLLIER'S GARDEN SCOOP
January 2016
In seed time, learn; in harvest,
teach; in winter, enjoy.
January Hours
Monday through Saturday, 9 to 5
Closed Sundays
Happy New Year, friends! We are back at the nursery after a lovely break for the holidays. It is always a bit quiet around here in January (compared to April, of course!) but in spite of the cold temperatures we still have much to peruse in the greenhouse. Fresh pansies, violas, primrose and ornamental cabbage have just arrived in case you need to freshen-up winter plantings. Missing the garden, but don't want to venture out into the cold? Beat the winter blues and bring the garden indoors: create an arrangement with tropical foliage & indoor blooms, or an adorable terrarium with succulents or small ferns- we will have a great selection of all of these during January, so stop by and see us!
English Primrose
A cold-hardy alternative to pansies & violas for the winter garden!
Violas
We love violas for their profuse blooms & sturdiness in cold & warm weather.

January Lawn Care
If you have a Zoysia or Bermuda lawn, we recommend applying
Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed & Grass Stopper during January. This is a pre-emergent that helps prevent cool-season weed seeds from germinating. Applying pre-emergent on a regular basis will prevent many weeds from popping up in the first place, which means less work (spraying & pulling) later on! For cool-season weeds that have already appeared, we recommend spot-spraying with fertilome Weed-Free Zone in Zoysia & Bermuda lawns, and Hi-Yield Atrazine for Centipede & St. Augustine.
