Collier's Garden Scoop
February 2015

A heart that loves is always young.

-Greek Proverb

The last winter month has arrived, which means spring is getting closer every day!
February is a lovely month at the nursery- many colorful flowers & interesting plants fill the greenhouse, and when the sun shines in on us, as you can see in the photos below, it is a salve on our winter-weary hearts. Come by and enjoy these last days before spring with us!

Beautiful Baskets
for Your Sweetheart
Don't forget- Valentine's Day is
Saturday, February 14th!
Baskets filled with live plants & lots of color result in unique arrangements that will last much longer than cut flowers, and offer a welcome alternative to the predictable vase of roses. Call or come by to place an order (just let us know what you want to spend) and pick up in time for Valentine's!

A fresh shipment of blooming hydrangeas has arrived in time

for Valentine's!

Early spring bulbs are in bloom in the greenhouse- lovely gifts that hint of the coming spring.
Do your container gardens need a little freshening-up? We still have healthy & beautiful primrose and pansies for late winter blooms that won't mind cold weather. English primrose are just as hardy as pansies & violas, and can be used worry-free outdoors. Fairy primrose are hardy to about 25 degrees, so may need some protection if we experience colder temperatures than this.
Fun new shipments of containers and garden décor arrive nearly every day during February!
Spring may still be a few weeks away, but you can get a sneak peek of our spring inventory throughout this month. So far we have received many large containers, as well a huge variety of table-top sized pots for indoors & out. Stop by and beat the winter blues as you browse new inventory and dream of spring with us!

Air Plants & Succulents

While it's still too cold to garden much outdoors,

you can enjoy these fun & low-maintenance plants indoors!

Since they do not require soil to grow, air plants can be mounted

on nearly any surface, or used in any kind of container. Simply submerge plants in water for several hours every two weeks. Succulents only require bright light & occasional water, which makes them great for tucking around the house or office.

Tillandsia species,

commonly referred to

as air plants, now in stock!

(pictured here on grapewood)

Succulents, including

hen & chicks and sedums,

in fun containers

that make great gifts.

Along with a new shipment of air plants, we also have gnarly grapewood pieces that can be used to mount air plants in creative ways- Tilly Tacker makes this an easy process! Use this tillandsia-friendly glue to attach an air plant to nearly any surface you can think of. Add a bit of Epiphyte Delight fertilizer to water and spray or submerge air plants in this nutritious liquid to keep them healthy.

Odds 'n Ends Container Sale

We're doing some pre-spring cleaning, clearing shelves of 'odds 'n ends' containers to make room for new pots & baskets that are arriving for the up-coming season. Stop by during February and browse our half-off container section!
