Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn.

November arrived with the blessing of a deep-reaching rain, undoubtedly appreciated by all the roots out there. Looking ahead, the month promises crisp, cool air & sunshine- plenty of time to enjoy fall before it disappears. At the nursery, there's still much to choose from as you start, or finish, your winter plantings!

Relax, it's not too late to plant...
|
...and we still have a great selection of pansies & violas, ornamental cabbage & kale, winter foliage, snapdragons, foxglove, herbs and lettuce- lots of fun choices for winter containers & flowerbeds!
Get those landscaping projects out of the way before holiday guests begin to arrive...
We have plenty of great options for foundation plantings, green screens and shrub borders in the shrub yard, and an interesting variety of trees, large and small.

Bulbs Are In!
If forcing bulbs this season, allow 4 to 6 weeks for blooms from paperwhites & hyacinths, and 6 to 8 weeks for amaryllis. Wait until after Thanksgiving to plant bulbs in flowerbeds & outdoor containers. Tuck a few among pansy plantings for a lovely surprise early next spring!

Cyclamen: Hidden Gems for Blooms in Winter
|
On covered porches, breezeways & protected patios (eastern & southern sides of homes are ideal), cyclamen can be used in containers or flowerbeds as an alternative to pansies. The key here is to shield them from cold & wind. With some protection they are hardy into the low 20's. Cyclamen are easy to care for, preferring slightly dry, never soggy soil, and can also be grown indoors in bright light. Pinch dead blooms and yellow leaves as needed. Look for emerging buds underneath the thick foliage.

Savory Scents of the Season
|
Consider growing winter hardy herbs in a sunny spot outdoors, or in a sunny window indoors where
they'll be close at hand.
Parsley, thyme, rosemary
& oregano can be harvested for their flavorful & aromatic foliage throughout the
winter months!
