HANDS UP; DON'T SHOOT! 

April 4th, 1968 was the day Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis TN, one of many places where our history actually happened. Because of him, we are no longer invisible to America.

King's dream is remembered, but not the defaulted debt that he evoked at the beginning of his iconic address. In 2015, over fifty years after his speech, the defaulted debt is still significant because:

  • Black unemployment is two-times higher than Whites,
  • 37% of male prisoners in America are Black,
  • we only have 2 Billionaires, Winfrey & Jordan,
  • only 9.8% of Blacks over 25 have a degree 
  • 75% of White families have never had Blacks over for dinner, and
  • Sunday morning is still the most segregated time of the week.

April 4th you may honor Kings legacy and reflect on his ideals of justice, democracy, and hope by visiting MLK National Memorial a Stone of Hope in Washington DC.


 

April 9th will mark 150 years since the Civil War ended ... a war that killed more Americans than all other U.S. wars combined.

 

April 14th John Wilkes Booth a Confederate sympathizer fatally shot President Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in DC.


 

I often wonder how much better this country would have been if those two men could have lived a long life? Maybe race relations wouldn't be as bad as they are today.

This is understandable when, in this age, youth, health and vitality are associated with a number of physical attributes and a vibrant head of hair is one of them.                   





 
Is Republican Opposition Racial?

The Republican Party has just about become a complete White Party

Is there racism in that hatred, or do you think it is based on principles and policies?

If you look at the real Obama haters, the core constituency

GOP Tea Party, supporters of impeaching the President, has no diversity


 

We know Republicans secretly planned his demise from the get-go

The reply to all of the Presidents proposed Bills to Congress is ... no!

They call the Pres lawless as if he's an outlaw riding the range

But here is what I find to be really strange


 

Breaking the rules of engagement with an over the top embrace of Netanyahu

The Prime Minister who flip-flopped the Israeli election, is not a paradigm of moral virtue

Just when I thought this disregard was a new low of the land


 

Gleefulness reign from GOP's refusal to except leadership from a Black man  

In a bid to kill any nuclear deal, 47 Republican Senators wrote a letter to Iran

GOP ideals are too hurtful to run on so they're trying to suppress your vote

Remember the last time Republicans signed a Bill to help people? Nope!


 

I'm surprised the GOP don't like affordable health care, older folks be-aware 

We have to remember, politicians fighting to kill the Bill have healthcare

Despite being vehemently opposed to Obamacare, Ted Cruz is signing up

Obama's health care law is helping over 16 million avoid becoming bankrupt


 

Cruz a hypocrite, likened the Affordable Care Act to appeasing the Nazis

Another GOP presidential candidate said it was the worst thing since slavery

The far right-wing of the Republican Party is older & all White

Is not voting in AG Loretta Lynch personal, political, racial, wrong or right?

 

Blacks are unfairly targeted by police, politicians & the judicial system without pity 

Violent protests have taken place in several US cities

Sparked by jury's decisions not to charge the killers of unarmed Black men, hence

Republicans take sides with the killers & send money for their defense


 

What about the Republican's denial of climate change, central to so many lives

Not sure if the GOP's opposition to Obama is ignorance, racial or if they're taking bribes 


 

One more thing I was thinking, I wish the Secret Service would stop drinking!

DC Walk To End Lupus

The DC Walk To End Lupus Now is two weeks away! This Walk continues to gain momentum in both number of participants and dollars raised. We are ecstatic to walk with YOU down Pennsylvania Ave and turn DC into a sea of purple  taking steps towards solving the cruel mystery of lupus. 

 


Super Bowl Champion defensive back for the New England Patriots and DC's own Tavon Wilson will be at this year's DC walk, serving as the Grand Marshall and cutting the opening ceremony ribbon, while leading more than 4,000 walkers down Pennsylvania Avenue towards the Capitol.

 

 
The Walk starts at 9:00 am but the fun doesn't end after the Walk!  Be sure that your plans include hanging out to eat lunch, listen to music, take photos at our new photo booth and enjoy the company of your local lupus community.
