August 1, 1779, in Frederick County, MD.
After witnessing the British bombardment of Ft. McHenry on the night of September 13-14, 1814, he was fascinated to see the American flag still flying over the fort at daybreak. He then wrote a poem originally entitled Defense of Fort McHenry, which became the US National Anthem in 1931.

Steps to Effective Delegating | |
Many small business owners become a jack-of-all-trades and do a little bit of everything when it comes to managing the business. This versatility can be a tremendous asset when first starting a business. However, as time goes on, the small business owner who continues to do everything will eventually burn out. Until a team is developed and some of the daily tasks and business management responsibilities are delegated, the business can't grow, and the business owner will likely be overextended and frustrated.
There are a lot of decisions and processes to consider when it comes time to build a team and start delegating. Use these steps to make the process more effective.

Don't ASK | |
Java powers many interactive elements found on the web. Java allows us to play online games, chat with people around the world, calcul ate mortgage interest and view images in 3D.
Java is also integral to intranet applications and e-business solutions. According to its website, Java is installed on 1.1 billion PCs, more than 3 billion mobile phones and in all Blu-ray players. Soluto, a PC and iOS remote troubleshooting company, reports that Java is also directly responsible for 40 percent of its user installations of the ever-annoying Ask.com toolbar.
Each time a user installs or updates Java, the procedure prompts the user to install the Ask toolbar and switch their default internet browser to Ask.com. The installation is quite deceptive because the Ask toolbar option is enabled by default. This means, users have to actively uncheck the boxes to prevent the installation. Most users are so focused on work, they generally click "next," just to get on with the update and get back to work, never bothering to change software installation settings.
Ofer Padan, Director of Data Products for Soluto, says nearly a third of its users have inadvertently installed the Ask toolbar at some point. Padan says that 59% of all users who install the toolbar end up disabling it. "We believe most of the remaining 41% simply haven't gotten to it yet," Padan jokes in Soluto's blog. Some users may still have to manually change browser settings and the homepage away from Ask.com after removing an installation.
There are ways to fight back, says Padan. First and foremost, check the permissions that Java asks for the next time you update. If you forget, modern browsers like recent versions of Google Chrome require users to manually enable third-party programs and Firefox has a similar feature.
Padan suggests just try "kicking Java to the curb completely." Not only does Java attempt to push the Ask toolbar with each and every update, Java is also a frequent target for hackers. According to Padan, Java is absolutely critical to the applications that use it, but only around 0.2% of websites actually do.
Do you really need Java on your PC? Padan says, "you can say thanks, but no thanks to Java's incessant Ask toolbar installation attempts and its security headaches," by uninstalling Oracle's software completely. "If one of your favored programs or websites-like, say, your bank-requires Java, you can install it again if you're prompted. Chances are you won't be."
