Microsoft will end support for XP Operating Systems on April 8
When Microsoft ends support for Windows XP, vulnerabilities discovered after April 8, will never be patched by Microsoft, leaving XP operating systems open to an ever expanding range of attacks.

Shawn Allaway, CEO of Converter Technology which specializes in migrating businesses to newer versions of Windows and Microsoft Offices, warns of the importance of minimizing the possible risk of exposure while XP runs unsupported on corporate networks. Microsoft will offer custom support contracts that provide continued upgrades after the end-of-support date but, says Allaway, "it is expensive." Allaway advises isolating XP machines on corporate networks and limiting the devices with which they can communicate.
Migrating is not a quick-fix. The larger the network, the longer it takes. PC upgrades may be needed to support a new operating system, but hardware needs may go beyond that. Drivers for older printers and other peripherals may not be available for Windows 7 or Windows 8. Moving to Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 requires a project lead, a plan for a phased rollout and personnel to help resolve the inevitable issues that will arise. "Don't resource-starve the project," Allaway says. "It will ultimately cost more and take longer."
