Doesn't it feel like fall just happened all of a sudden? Here at GPFCU we are definitely ready for warm apple cider, pumpkin flavored everything, and of course getting in those last minute home projects before it starts getting REALLY cold!
With the housing market reaching pre-recession levels, maybe you have been thinking about the resale value of your home. Consider our great deals on Home Equity Loans or even Personal Loans to help with the costs.
Don't forget that there will be slight increases in the fee schedule starting today - so make sure that you review the list to make sure you are in the clear!
Also the offices will be closed Monday, October 14 for Columbus Day. Please be sure to plan accordingly!
Sincerely,
Greater Pittsburgh FCU Staff

Smart Home Improvements Add Value
Home improvement costs can add up quickly. But if you select smart projects, you can recoup a lot of what you spend when you sell the house. Invest some time in planning, even if you don't intend to make all improvements at once. If you want to make big changes, spend time with a designer or architect to lay out a master plan and get expert feedback about your ideas. There are several basic concepts that improve the value of a home:
* Adding purpose or function to an awkward space * Finishing existing spaces in your home * Finding ways to use wasted space * Keeping projects in the style of your home and neighborhood Here are several major projects that, executed well, add value to your home:
Updating your kitchen:
* Add a backsplash * Replace or refinish floors * Upgrade countertops, cabinets, and sinks * Add usable space with a center island * Improve lighting to make it feel warmer and more inviting * Add a pantry to provide coveted storage space Adding or upgrading bathrooms:
* Add a second bathroom to a single family home * Replace tile or grout, sinks, and fixtures in existing bathrooms * Add a second sink in a master bath if space allows Functional changes:
* Replace old windows with energy-efficient ones and replace siding. You'll improve comfort even if you don't recover the cost in reduced fuel use. You'll generally want to stay away from highly customizable projects that might bring personal enjoyment but won't have broad appeal, such as an oversized garage or personal spa. Once you've determined which projects you want to tackle, a home equity loan from GPFCU is a low-cost way to help you pay for them. We're excited to help you refresh your home. Stop in or call us today at 412.621.6800.

Home Equity Loans at GPFCU By Barbara Caton, Home Equity Loan Coordinator
Most people think that a home equity loan is just for home improvement expenses but it may be used for any purpose not just those related to your home. This type of loan can be a smart financial tool used for various life expenses such as, a car purchase, education costs, wedding expenses or bill consolidation. When you need to borrow money there are good reasons to consider a home equity loan. The interest paid on home equity loans have the potential to be tax deductible making these loans an appealing option to other types of loans or credit. Using a home equity loan to consolidate higher interest rate credit card debt is advantageous as the rates are much lower than credit card rates.

Our current rates are: 3.25% - 5 Years
3.75% - 10 Years 4.00% - 15 Years You may borrow up to the equity in your home. Greater Pittsburgh FCU figures equity as 80% of the appraised value of your home less any mortgage balance. The minimum loan amount is $5,000.00. Loans will only be made on member's primary residence - rental property, vacation homes, or land owned cannot be used as collateral. If the property is located in a Special Flood Hazard Area, we will require you to obtain flood insurance. Jan Hagan or I would be happy to discuss the application process with you in more detail. If you are interested we'd love to talk to you. Please give us a call at 412-621-6800.

Sincerely,
Barb Caton
