New Year = New Commitment to Health & Wellness

By Jim Pshock: Founder & CEO, Bravo Wellness and IncentiSoft Solutions

A recent summary published in the University of Scranton Journal of Clinical Psychology, indicates that 45% of Americans make New Year's resolutions, and that the number one resolution is... you guessed it - to lose weight!

When the momentum caused by these personal resolutions is combined with a company's resolve to "get off of the hamster wheel" of endless healthcare benefit cost increases, it can create the perfect recipe to launch a corporate wellness initiative that will actually achieve measurable results. Don't miss this unique window of time!

Affordable Care Action - What Your Next Steps Are

The Proposed Wellness Regulations under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) continue to represent an exciting way to tie your employees' personal accountability to real behavior change and incentives.

  • Be alert to new regulations, interpretations and FAQ's as they evolve.
  • Ensure your plan design is "reasonably designed" and follows best-practices to consider your culture, your work environment, your intervention programs, and your communications strategy.
  • Refer to industry resources for more information.
  • Engage with your employees and their families on wellness and prevention services.

Remember, the proposed regulations do not go into effect until January 2014, so you have time to work with us to create or modify your wellness plans. Call your client account manager or sales team member to schedule a consultation and review.

Wellness Should Be Part of the Foundation, Not a Brick in the Wall

For many employers, wellness programs are viewed as just another added benefit for their employees, a means to try and get their employees to get a little healthier, or to create good will. Wellness programs are not usually viewed as the most important component to an employer's overall healthcare benefits strategy. With many new provisions in 2014 from the Affordable Care Act (ACA), it is vital that your wellness initiatives be part of the foundation you build your healthcare benefits strategy on, not just another brick in the wall. Here is why:

  • The ACA is predicted to add 7-10% of additional cost to many employers as they add "essential benefits," cover more dependents, eliminate maximums, and auto-enroll employees. Most employers will have no choice but to share part or all of the new costs with their employees by adjusting the premium share they have in place today.

Communication is a Key to Compliance

As an important part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), outcomes-based wellness programs must be "reasonably designed" and effectively communicated.  Employers will need to clearly demonstrate and communicate what programs are available to help participants achieve the health goals.  We have designed our systems and strategy to easily help you accomplish just this:

  • Bravo will help you design your communication plan to promote your current programs and resources as part of your wellness strategy, and/or can assist you in finding partners to fill any gaps you might have in your wellness resources.
  • To ensure our clients are fully compliant, Bravo has designed an enhanced comprehensive communications strategy that will communicate with all employees before, during, and after incentive screenings to ensure they have all the information they need to improve their health outcomes.

Do not hesitate to call your client account manager to help you engage, drive accountability with your employees and achieve real behavior change.
