New Logo for Student Agencies Foundation

Dan Sommer ('98) has a long and dedicated history with Student Agencies having served as a student manager of Mile High Laundry (no longer a SAI business), SAI President, a member of SAI and eLab Boards of Directors, a SA F Trustee and was director of the pilot program behind eLab.
Dan recently shared some of his thoughts on the project.Student Agencies has over 120 years of history. It was started by an enterprising student looking for ways to fund his education and that tradition has continued and expanded through the hard work and support of each generation of Cornell Students. Today, SAF supports SAI, eLab, Popshop and is working in collaboration with E@C in the new venture: eHub. Each of these enitities work together to advance the overall mission of SAF - providing opportunities for students to learn business and entrepreneurial skills.Student Agencies is a strong, independent organization with both roots and current ties to Cornell University. It was certainly a large task to try and create a logo that captures the history of the organization and the vitality of the current & future students but our branding committee took on the challenge. We are happy to share with you, the new logo for Student Agencies Foundation:

Interesting find - ads from 1920's CU Daily Sun
These ads for Stvent Lavndry Agency (Student Agencies, Inc.) ran in the Cornell Daily Sun on Monday, Sept. 20th 1920. Even then, the ad's focus was on (6) Cornell Students earning money to pay their tuition while providing a good service to the community. Certainly, the history buffs among us will enjoy their phone number (Bell 1167) and other distinctly 1920's items found in the photos.

Albert R. Nolin ('21), listed as GM in the ad, served as President (1921), Treasurer (1919-1920) and GM (1920).
This photo of Albert hangs on the wall - along with many of the Presidents that have served throughout the years - in the SAI office.
Robert (Bob) Patch ('22) was the Asst Manager for SAI in 1920. He was a Mech Eng Major at the time of the ad and President of the Cornell Flying Club. This was Bob's senior photo in the Cornellian. |
Special Notice - Alumnus is currently recruiting
Michael Slowik (MBA '08), Director of Chemicals at Novomer is currently recruiting for a Business Development Associate. Cornell connection? Michael was the graduate fellow for SAI during Nathaniel Weiss ('09)'s Presidency. Also, Novomer was founded by a Cornellian (former Head of the Chemistry Dept.)

POPSHOP has a new home!
"We've moved from 206B Dryden to a huge new space at 325 College Ave! With our new-found square footage, we'll be able to provide space to more student entrepreneurs, host larger events, and impact the Cornell community in bigger and better ways. We owe a big thanks to eLab, Student Agencies and E@C for helping us make this happen. We're still moving in, but feel free to pop in and say hi! Stay tuned for news about a 'popwarming party' soon..." |
