Members of the BCSSW Alumni Association participated in the 2016 NAMIWalks Massachusetts event in Boston this May. The group outing was one of many volunteer and networking opportunities organized for BCSSW alums this year.
Hello BC Social Work Alumni,

We hope you are enjoying these final days of summer! As we quickly approach the new academic year, we are excited to begin plans for this year's events. Participating in BCSSW Alumni Association activities is a great way to give back and keep in touch with the school. 
We would love for you to join us! 

Below are descriptions of events planned for the coming semester and ways to stay connected with each other and the school, even if you don't live near campus.

Alumni Board Meetings
The Alumni Board monthly meetings are open and we encourage you to attend to learn how you can get involved with the BCSSW Alumni Association. We meet on the following dates for academic year 2016 - 2017:
9/26, 10/24, 1/30, 2/27, 3/27, and 4/24
Although, at this time, board members need to be physically present, any alum can attend a meeting either in person or by phone.

We will hold a day-long conference celebrating some of the diverse social work practice activities carried out by our BCSSW alums. This conference will be organized by and for our alums. The conference will award 7.0 CEUs, just in time for the October 1st relicensing deadline.

Nationwide Alumni Opportunities 
Networking Events
Cindy Snell, Director of the Office of Career Services and Emily Greising, BCSSW Alumni Board President have held networking events around the country.  This past June, Cindy had a great time reconnecting with alumni in San Francisco. Alumni networking events have also been held in Seattle and New York City. If you are interested in helping plan a BCSSW networking event in your area, please contact Cindy at [email protected].
BCSSW Alumni Mentoring Program
The BCCSW Alumni Board would like to invite you to sign up for the 2017 mentoring program. Mentors are alumni that have graduated in 2011 or earlier, and mentees are alumni whose graduation years fall between 2012 and 2016. Quarterly email communication is expected (January, April, July, & November) with the option to have phone or in-person communication if participants wish. Quarterly check-ins, as well as articles, will be sent by the program coordinators. Some of the mentoring topics will include: mentoring relationship goals, leadership & teamwork, work-life balance, workplace challenges, and career goals. The program will run from January-December 2017 with the option to continue a more informal mentorship if participants wish. Mock Interviewing
Alumni from across the globe are invited to participate in the Mock Interviewing program taking place in February 2017. Mock Interviews take place in person, over the phone, or via Skype so soon-to-be graduates can practice their interviewing skills. Please contact Cindy Snell at [email protected] if you are interested in participating as an interviewer.
Distinguished Alumni Award Nominations
We invite all BC Social Work alumni to nominate an MSW or Doctoral alumnus who they feel has made a significant contribution to the profession of social work.

Continuing Education Opportunity

Travel Grant Awards from the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute
We are delighted to share with you that the Academic Affiliates and Research Division of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (BPSI) has selected the Boston College School of Social Work for the opportunity to receive travel grant awards for social workers who are interested in deepening their experience in psychoanalytic ideas. The one-time travel grants will cover costs of travel, lodging, meals, and registration fee to attend the American Psychoanalytic Association's annual meeting held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City in January, 2017. The travel award includes one year of mentoring with a BPSI social work psychoanalyst mentor along with other benefits. The award is open to applicants who are post-master's, and who are alumni of BCSSW.

Application deadline for submission:  October 1, 2016.
