SUMMER 2015
FROM DEAN ALBERTO GODENZI
Being part of a social work program is one of the most rewarding jobs in higher education. While we may not get the same attention or equal resources as other academic units on campus, our environment is unique for three main reasons.
First, we have the privilege to be working with exceptional students who blend multiple intelligences with passion and altruism. Second, our faculty are often the most diverse group of academics, plus they thrive in transdisciplinary settings. Third, we reach our purpose when our work contributes to more opportunities and equity for people and communities in need.
The stories of this most recent BC Social Work e-newsletter reflect this unique work environment and highlight some of the contributions we make to a more just society.

MEDIA ALUMNI

Associate Professor Tiziana Dearing continues to offer her unique perspective to some of the biggest stories in the news - most recently, as a commentator on WBUR's coverage of the jury verdict for the sentencing phase of the Boston Marathon Bombing Trial and on NECN's "How the Jury Decided" discussion.  More >>  George Williams, SJ, MSW '97, is lucky enough to have found his dream job, though his day-to-day might not look like the average social worker's vision of the sublime. Williams spends his days counseling some of the 700 men on California's death row, a place he calls "the darkest place I've worked."  More >>
