New Funding Opportunity Released
HWPP Responsive Cohort 2 - Call for Changemakers

HWPP has released a new funding opportunity for the HWPP Responsive Component Cohort 2 of the Call for Changemakers Request for Proposals (RFP), guided by the 2014-2018 AHW Five-Year Plan.

The funding will support Wisconsin-based, multi-sector, community-MCW academic coalitions or networks to work together to translate public health data and evidence into actions to pursue grassroots policy, environmental or systems change (changing the regulations, rules, priorities, protocols or practices within and across organizations and communities and/or changing the physical or material components of the community environment) that address the key determinants that most strongly influence health.

Successful projects will demonstrate an appropriate budget and timeframe for their proposed scope of work. Approximately $1 million to $1.5 million is available to support four to six projects.

Spotlight Story: Creating an Accountable Care System for Uninsured Populations
Linking safety-net clinics and specialty care providers
In 2013, Anthony was living at the Rescue Mission shelter in Milwaukee when he discovered a lump in his neck. When an outreach nurse from St. Ben's Clinic visited the shelter, Anthony asked to have the lump examined. After, he visited St. Ben's Clinic for a more extensive evaluation and found out he needed to see a specialist.

But Anthony was uninsured. He did not know if a specialist would see him.

Update on AAMC Video Contest: Help HWPP Project and Contest Finalist Win
Eyes on the Future

Partners from Teleophthalmology to Improve Eye Health among Latinos, a 9th Funding Cycle HWPP Development project, are currently competing for seed money to increase diversity in medicine and science.

Thanks to their supporters, the partners' submission has been chosen as one of three finalists. Now they need your help to win, as the winner of the largest seed grant ($7000) will be determined by which video has received the most 'Likes' on Youtube by November 24, 2014.

For those who choose to help by 'Liking' the project's video, be aware that supporters that are not currently logged into a Google account will be prompted to log-in with a Google account after clicking the "Thumbs Up" icon.

The competition is hosted by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), a not-for-profit organization which represents more than 100,000 faculty members, 80,000 medical students, and 100,000 resident physicians in the United States and Canada.
