Strategic Component: HWPP seeks three experts to work on first health priority

Through the HWPP Strategic Component, one of three new HWPP components under the recent Five-Year Plan, the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin (AHW) endowment will invest in targeted health priorities.

Based on public input and Medical College of Wisconsin Consortium on Public and Community Health discussion, the first targeted health priority for the HWPP Strategic Component is community-based mental and behavioral health.

To further develop this priority area, the AHW endowment is seeking a subject matter expert, evaluator and facilitator to work with HWPP staff members on a Leadership Team in 2015. The team will develop a Learning Community to discuss the topic of enhancing community-based mental and behavioral health in Wisconsin.

Together, the Leadership Team and Learning Community will determine a number of promising directions for achieving positive change in this crucial focus area.

Reminder: Register for December Conversations for Change events

At Conversations for Change events, which began in September 2014, the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin endowment invites a content expert and representatives from funded projects to facilitate discussion about issues influencing health in Wisconsin.

The next Conversation in the series will be held in Milwaukee on December 17, 2014. The topic for the discussion is community-based mental and behavioral health.

On December 18, 2014, a rescheduled Conversations for Change session will be held in Wausau. The event had been planned for November 2014 but was postponed due to severe winter weather. The topic for the discussion is the utilization of community collaboration to promote health in Wisconsin's rural communities.

Reminder: Responsive Cohort Two Stage 1
Brief Proposals due January 9, 2015

Last month, HWPP released a new funding opportunity from the HWPP Responsive Component for a second cohort. The Call for Changemakers Request for Proposals (RFP) is available online and is guided by the 2014-2018 AHW Five-Year Plan.

The funding will support Wisconsin-based, multi-sector, community-MCW academic coalitions or networks to work together to translate public health data and evidence into action to pursue grassroots policy, environmental or systems changes that address the key determinants influencing health.

Successful projects will demonstrate an appropriate budget and timeframe for their proposed scope of work. Approximately $1 million to $1.5 million is available to support four to six projects.
