Healing Together
School-based group therapy helps youth deal with traumatic experiences

A screech pierced the din of normal Milwaukee traffic and commerce, as a woman and a child walked home from a Milwaukee school. Rubber burned as a speeding car's brakes did what they could to stop the vehicle as it hurtled toward the crosswalk. But the brakes were applied too late, a delayed decision by a drunk driver. The child would be okay, but the woman would not make it to the hospital.

 

Karen*, a La Causa Charter School student, was in Mexico with her mother when she heard the news. The victim was her grandmother. Karen never got to say goodbye.

Last Minute Reminders
Full Proposal Submission

The full proposal submission deadline is right around the corner for the 9th Funding Cycle of HWPP Awards.  Please take note of the following.

Proposal Reminders

  • Make sure your proposal demonstrates alignment between project goals, the amount requested in your budget, and an appropriate timeline.
  • Include a strong evaluation component in your proposal to demonstrate the impact of your project.  
  • Plan for dissemination in your proposal.  If funded, how do you plan to share the results of your project? 

Submission Reminders 

  • The eBridge deadline is 8:00 AM on Friday, June 21st.  The primary academic partner is responsible for this component, but all components of the proposal must be submitted to eBridge.
  • Following eBridge approval, all forms must be submitted to HWPP in hard copy format.
    • Due by
      5:00 PM CST on Friday, June 28, 2013 
    • One single-sided  submission, marked "Original"
    • One double-sided submission, marked "Copy"
  • HWPP is located in the Health Research Center (HRC), room 2210 (within the Institute for Health and Society).
    • Directions can be found on the MCW webpage 
    • Allow enough time for area road construction

Learning from the Past, Building for the Future

Based on the positive comments from the February 2013 HWPP Lessons Learned workshop, the 7th Community Engagement in Research (CEnR) Conference will include:
  • Lessons Learned from previous and currently funded HWPP partnerships. Partnerships will share their own experiences for the benefit of other partnerships.
  • Skill-building sessions  
  • Networking - it is always beneficial to expand your network of potential partners
