Greetings!

Happy Summer everyone! Residents and visitors to the Cape know that June can be a very fickle month when it comes to the weather. Although the businesses are all open and the roads begin to swell with traffic, it can sometimes feel like summer forgot to arrive. Not this year. It has been gloriously warm, dry and just about perfect for enjoying whatever outdoor activity may float your boat. Folks who need something to complain about will say that we could really use some rain, and they're probably right. We have a hard time hearing those folks, however. Every time they start to talk we turn the radio up really loud. In fact, we recommend just turning the radio up preemptively. That way you can enjoy the sweet sounds of summer without any unpleasant interruptions.

Dave Myers

We were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Myers, former Executive Director of WOMR. Dave died unexpectedly on June 19 at the age of 46. Dave led the organization from 2006 to 2009 and brought tremendous creativity and enthusiasm to the job. Prior to working at WOMR, Dave was the operations and development director at KMUD, a community radio station in northern California. Subsequent to his work with us, Dave was production director, marketing consultant and on-air personality at Cape Cod Broadcasting. In addition to his work on the radio, many people in the community knew Dave as an active member of the vibrant Cape Cod music scene. Many from that scene gathered to remember Dave at O'Shea's Olde Inne in West Dennis on June 27. Dave will always be remembered for his work with a myriad of local groups, including the Truro Agricultural Fair, the Wellfleet Recreation Department, Nauset Regional Middle School, and The Wellfleet Methodist Church, among others. His easy smile and generous spirit will never be forgotten. He is survived by his son, Sam, and his daughter, Rose, among others. May all find peace in difficult times.

Interesting Times

Some say that it's a curse to live in interesting times. The current political environment may provide some evidence for the claim. Democracy Now! has been trying to take the sting out of that curse for the last 20 years, as Amy Goodman and her team provide an important counter point to the mainstream media. Amy Goodman and Denis Moynihan will be in Provincetown one day after the close of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, and will no doubt provide a complete breakdown of what may be contentious proceedings. Program Notes

It's always disappointing when long-time beloved programs come to the end of their run. It's in that context that we announce the end of the Coffeehouse at The Mews program. The show has aired for a number of years, and has raised a bunch of money for the station. We still love Peter, Ron and everyone at The Mews, but the logistics of producing the program became too much of a burden. We wish all the best to the crew as the open mic night at The Mews will no doubt carry on without being on the radio.

Karen Stein has resigned from her show which aired once a month on Sunday nights from 6-9pm. Imagine was part of the stellar line-up of world music programs that air in that slot. These and other slots are available for new DJs who would like to be a part of our radio family. Send proposals to matty@womr.org.

We are happy to report that this year's running of the Wellfleet Sprint Triathlon on June 4 was a success. Not only were there no major casualties, but we were honored by the participation of one happy couple on their wedding day. Shannon and Ian made an attractive couple as they had matching black and white outfits and she ran in her veil. We look forward to welcoming them back next year as they celebrate their anniversary.

Things go much better when you plan in advance. When you become part of our Legacy Circle, you help prepare Outermost Community Radio for a financially secure future.
