Howard Weiner
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Howard Weiner. Howard was a member of our family for well over 20 years as the host of Cafe Classicale and the WOMR Opera House. More recently, Howard hosted the live broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera from New York. His enthusiasm for the repertoire was irrepressibly contagious, and he was able to connect with listeners in a unique and engaging manner. He knew many of the principal performers personally, and his knowledge of the material was such that he was able to send production notes to the sources of the broadcasts when he would catch errors that had gone previously unnoticed. Even folks who

were not fans of opera couldn't help but be entranced by Howard's explanations of the plots and his pronunciation of the titles. In Howard's honor and out of respect to the many fans of opera and the tradition of classical music on WOMR, we fully intend to keep the WOMR Opera House and Cafe Classicale on the air. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help us on that mission should contact Matty in the office.

Vinegrass Party
After hosting an astonishingly good roots music festival for a couple of years running at Truro Vineyards, it's hard to call Vinegrass the new kid in town anymore. WOMR has been proud to be a part of that party, and we're even more excited to partner with Pete and Monica of Vinegrass to present Parsonfield at W.H.A.T. on November 12. Join us as these masters of newgrass take the stage at 8pm to show how old-time music thrives in the 21st century by incorporating the influence of pop and rock music. Prepare to get your groove on to the sound of banjos and mandolins in the hands of people who know what to do with them. Even if you're not familiar with the band (look them up at their website), the track record of the good folks at Vinegrass should tell you that they know about young bands on the move. Come check out the show and you'll be able to say you knew about Parsonfield when....

Your Station Needs You
These things tend to go in phases, and we're heading in to a stretch when we'll be a little short-handed. A number of our volunteers do extensive traveling in the winter, and some of the folks who have been stalwart substitutes in the past now have regular shows of their own. Our station is only as strong as the people who make it go, and we'd love for you to be one of the voices that our listeners come to love. No experience is necessary. We'll give you everything you need to become a star. All you need to do is show up and bring the love. Call the office or email Matty at matty@womr.org to get started.
