Greetings!

Did you hear that? That giant whooshing noise may have been the sound of the herd of summer people heading back to the rest of their lives or it may have been an enormous sigh of relief from the people left on the Cape as they enjoy a little more room to move about the sand bar. Although there are signs of the changing seasons, the heat wave this week leaves no doubt that it's still summer. We are unanimous in our decision that this is our favorite time of year. There is a bit more cash in the local economy at the end of the tourist season, and there's still plenty to enjoy. Festival season is in full effect and all of the local businesses are still open. Everyone's got just a little bit more time and space to enjoy each other's company. Come on out to one of the great events happening this fall and share the love.

6th Annual CranJam

The weather's always great in Harwich
It's so close now, you can just about reach out and touch it. Outermost Community Radio throws it's biggest party of the year each September at Brooks Park in Harwich Center, and this year it falls on Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20. Two full days of local color, with music, food and drink, and more arts and crafts than you know what to do with. The party starts at 11am on Saturday with The Elbows and Trevor the Juggler. We booked these acts with the kids in mind, but you don't have to be under a certain age to enjoy them. The smiles are contagious. Also performing on Saturday are Catie Flynn, Kami Lyle, The Sacred Mounds and Brian Sances. Sunday's festivities kick off with a student band showcase featuring Keltic Kids, Good Question, Canon Hill and Coastal Explosion. Sunday afternoon will see VB and
Raven's in on the joke (maybe)
the Buzz, Cla da Bossa Nova with Tad Price, Beetbox Band, and Sarah & The Oh Boys. The whole represents an amazing chance to see the wealth of homegrown talent that we have here on Cape Cod. You can be sure to see plenty of your favorite DJs and meet lots of the other members of your favorite radio station. It will be a truly beautiful bonding experience.

What Are Words Worth?

This is becoming a habit. Or maybe it's just a trend. You could even call it a tradition if you like. Whatever words you use to describe it, we're pleased to announce the third installment of the Outermost Poetry Contest. Author and poet Marge Piercy has once again graciously agreed to preside over the pronouncement of the winners. More details are available at the website, but the deadline for submissions will be January 4. That should give you plenty of time to choose your words carefully and put them in the order that presents them in their best light. Or you could just throw the magnets up against the fridge and see how they land. The top prize of $1000 ought to get your attention. The best entry from Cape Cod will receive $200. All finalists will appear as guests on the Poets Corner show on our airwaves.

Benefit Film Series

The return of fall means the return of Brad Moore and his movies. There's always popcorn and beverages available as Brad screens vintage films in the luxurious Davis Space at the Schoolhouse. Lest you think that Brad is stuck too far in the past, there are talkies in the series as well as silent films. The silent films often feature the accompaniment of live musicians. The entertainment value simply can't be beat. The series begins October 1st with Sunrise directed by F.W. Murnau and runs through March on Thursday nights at 7:30.

Meet and Eat

Our annual business meeting is just over the horizon. The report of the Nominating Committee of the Board of Directors has been filed, and voting will take place at the meeting which takes place on Saturday November 21 at Napi's Restaurant in Provincetown.

If you can't make it to the CranJam in Harwich, or even if you can, there's another great opportunity to enjoy the bounty our local talents have to offer. The Orleans ClamBQ Food & Music Festival takes place on Saturday September 26 at Eldredge Park in Orleans. There will be food from a plethora of local purveyors, crafts from a variety of vendors, a beer garden by Cisco Brewers and tunes provided by Sarah Swain, The Rip It Ups and Digney Fignus. Tickets are available for the music, with separate tickets for the barbecue or the clambake. Food will also be available a la carte from local restaurants.

Raging Skillet

You may know Rossi as the host of Bite This on WOMR, but that only scratches the surface of this woman's accomplishments. Celebrate the publication of her new book, The Raging Skillet: The True Life Story of Chef Rossi - A Memoir With Recipes, at a special event at the Schoolhouse on Sunday, November 22. There will be food, autographs, talking, and books.
