Greetings!

Happy summer! Thanks to all our listeners and supporters for making this a very happy time for us here at the station. We launched into the high season propelled by the energy generated by Outermost Radio: The Film, and the momentum has only continued to gather as time goes by. We just wrapped up one of our most successful pledge drives ever with the help of the entire staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, underwriters, business members and, of course, the listeners. It was almost certainly the most support we've felt when we weren't trying to put the tower back in the upright position. We fully intend to work from this position of strength to get even better at fulfilling our mission of serving our community. As we engage in a formal strategic planning process, please take the time to fill out our stakeholder survey. It may not be quite as much fun as attending the Provincetown Carnival parade, but you may get a mild case of the warm-and-fuzzies.

6th Annual CranJam

Although we're smack dab in the middle of summer, it's not too early to start thinking about what comes next. Celebrate the final days of summer with us in Harwich as we throw our biggest party of the year. This year's edition of the CranJam picks up where last year's festival left off, focusing exclusively on the home-grown talent that we've all come to know and love. We're particularly excited to introduce a new showcase of some of our area's younger performers on Sunday morning. Join us as we marvel at the talent of Keltic Kids, Good Question, Canon Hill and Coastal Explosion. Saturday's program starts at 11am with entertainment aimed at some of our youngest listeners when The Elbows and Trevor The Juggler take center stage. The Catie Flynn Band, Kami Lyle, The Sacred Mounds and The Brian Sances Band round out the card on Saturday. Following the Student Showcase on Sunday will be VB and The Buzz, Cla Da Bossa Nova, Beetbox Band and Sarah Swain & The Oh Boys. There's something for everyone as the styles range from country and americana to polka and Brazilian and a few acts that defy genres altogether. There will be a craft fair, food trucks and beer and wine available too. Come early, as things will be winding down by 6pm each day.

Movie Night

In all of the excitement surrounding Outermost Radio: The Film, it occurred to us that many people may not have had a chance to actually see the thing yet. Perhaps we were distracted by the flash bulbs of the red carpet at our premiere in April or swept away by the glamour of the award-winning appearance at the Provincetown Film Festival in June. Whatever the case may be, we have come to our senses long enough to plan a showing of the film on Thursday August 20 at the Payomet Performing Arts Center. They are accustomed to hosting circus events at the tent in North Truro, so they should be well-prepared for the community radio mob to invade their space. Some of us will be on hand to answer your questions after the film, making good use of the fact that some of us are imminently questionable individuals. The film celebrates the achievements of a more-or-less lovable group of courageous iconoclasts as the community united to put Humpty Dumpty back together again after the antenna fell off the water tower. Ahhhh, we were all so much younger then.

Carnival Time

We love a good parade in Provincetown, and there's none better than the annual Carnival Parade. This year's edition of the parade takes place on Thursday August 20 and features the theme, Candyland. It's impossible to predict what the imaginative people of Provincetown will do with this theme, but we're pretty sure that it will involve some tarts in addition to some sweets. Look for Lady Di to once again sit atop the WOMR float as it makes it's way from east to west down Commercial Street.

Stretchin' Out

It's a thrill to work with so many incredible people across our region as we make connections with folks in all the different towns that we serve. We've got a two-day festival in Harwich, we celebrate Provincetown's special brand of zaniness in the carnival parade and we're working with the Orleans Police Department as they present their annual block party. On Wednesday August 19, Main Street Orleans will close to traffic around 5pm as the classic cruisers, first responder vehicles, games and entertainers take over. Matty Dread will be spinning tunes at one end of Main Street as live bands perform at the other end of the street. Come out and mingle as we enjoy a slice of pure Americana.

There will be more fun in Orleans in September as we party with the people at the Clam BQ on the 26th. Matty Dread will be emcee and DJ of the event which features Chandler Travis, Sarah Swain, The Rip It Ups, food, vendors and libations in Eldredge Park. The beat never stops.

Yard Sale

Be sure to swing by the PMG parking lot on Shank Painter Road this Saturday August 15 from 9am to check out the bargains available in the WOMR and WFMR annual benefit yard sale. Hilary will be there with all sorts of oldies and goodies, including many free and 25 cent CDs. The raindate will be Sunday August 16.
