Greetings!

Zoinks and gadzooks. It's amazing how fast things can change around here. Just a few short weeks ago, the traffic was mellow and you could find a seat at any restaurant at whatever time you wanted. Since then, the population has exploded exponentially, and the no-left-turns rule has gone into effect. We welcome with open arms the visitors and part-time residents that share our connection to this very special community. We are thrilled that you made the effort to spend some time in this place that isn't on the way to anywhere. Just remember that in these times, there are waaaaaay more people here than these streets were designed to carry. Please be patient, alert and courteous as we all try to get where we want to be. And don't forget to listen to the local community radio station. It'll put you in a better mood and you just might learn something.

We're Unanimous

Congratulations to Director Alan Chebot, Producer Sarah-Taylor Wieluns and the entire crew at Parallax Productions for winning the John Schlessinger Award for first-time documentary filmmakers at the 17th annual Provincetown International Film Festival. We were honored to have Outermost Radio: The Film chosen to open the festival on Thursday at Wellfleet Preservation Hall and to have it shown again in the big room at Provincetown Town Hall on Sunday. The film now moves on to the Kansas International Film Festival as we await word from a number of other film festivals across the country. There's no word yet on when the film will be shown again here on the Cape. DJ and former volunteer of the year Hilary Bamford also made an appearance in another film that was shown at this year's Film Festival. Packed In A Trunk won the HBO Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature and tells the story of a Provincetown artist whose work was nearly lost. We're pretty sure it was Hilary's contribution that put the film over the top. Packed In A Trunk will be shown on HBO on July 20 at 9pm.

Movie Night

In the rush of summer, we don't schedule as many events as at other times of year, but there a few things afoot that you should know about. We're having a movie night here at the Schoolhouse this weekend on Saturday as DJ and Board member Carol Courneen presents Tom Rush: No Regrets. The film incorporates contemporary and archival concert footage with interviews with DJs, record executives and Tom himself. Look for lots of cameos by a diverse set of characters from across the generations.

We're also running a raffle this month to give away a big batch of tickets to musical events across the Cape in August. On July 17 at 10am, one lucky winner will be chosen to receive tickets to The Cotuit Center for The Arts, The Payoment Performing Arts Center, The Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, The Provincetown Theater and many more. Call Chris in the office at 508-487-2619 to get your tickets today. Click here to see the whole list of included goodies.

CranJam and Conservation Day

Sixth annual CranJam September 19-20

It may come as no surprise that there are plenty of festivals on the Cape in the summer. Plans are coming together nicely for the sixth annual Cran Jam at the Harwich Cranberry Festival on September 19 and 20. The musical line up will once again feature all local bands and this year we've added a showcase of young talent to the bill. As always, there will be a park full of arts and crafts vendors and a lot full of food trucks at the event. There are a few other things to do before we get to September, however. This Saturday July 11 at Drummer Boy Park in Brewster the Bre
Brewster Conservation Day July 11

wster Conservation Trust presents Brewster Conservation Day. More than 40 participants will present a wealth of information on the past, present and future of Brewster's ecology. At community radio, we are well aware of how the environment makes this place special, and the station will be represented by Matty Dread as the emcee for the day. There will be food, entertainment and plenty of kids activities as the fun runs from 9:30 - 2:00 pm. Admission is free.

Festival Season

As we look down the calendar past July, there are a few other things that you may want to put on your calendar. Four years after having put up a transmitter in Orleans, we continue the process of making ourselves at home. On August 19, WOMR and WFMR are proud to once again partner with the Orleans Police Department as part of the Orleans Block party. There will be antique cars, plenty of activities for the kids, and a chance to check out some of the first responders' heavy equipment. Matty Dread will be rockin' the oldies in the middle of Main Street.

After Labor Day, WOMR and WFMR will once again be a part of the Orleans ClamBQ on September 26. This year, the best party in Orleans moves to Eldredge Park next to the middle school. With tons of great music, a barbecue and clambake, and art and craft vendors, the Orleans ClamBQ is sure to be bigger and better than ever.

Best Laid Plans

Outermost Community Radio is engaged in a long-term strategic planning process and we can't do it alone. We've brought in a consultant to help us who knows more about these things than we do. We also need the help of everyone who's got a stake in what we do. In the near future, we will be sending everyone on this mailing list a questionnaire to get your opinions about what we're doing right, what we could be doing better and what we might do in the future. You'll also be able to find the questionnaire on the website. Make your opinions count by filling out the questionnaire and returning it. The station will be better for having you be a part of it.

Perhaps you're doing a bit of long range planning in your own life. If so, we'd like you to consider making Lower Cape Communications (that's us) a part of that process. There are many ways that a financial planner can help make your charitable dollars go further. Here are a few ideas that might help get you started. Consult your own advisor or call us in the office for more information.

David Sedaris

Shawn Nightingale Productions is bringing David Sedaris to Provincetown Town Hall for two shows on July 29 and 30. Individuals who become new or renewing members between now and showtime will get the opportunity to buy tickets for a 20% discount. Call Chris in our office today to renew your membership and get your discounted tickets to the show. This is  just one of the many fringe benefits your membership in community radio is likely to bring.
