Greetings!

One of our biggest little fans

Hello again from your favorite radio station that sits at the end of a sandbar.  Now that we've set the clocks back and even seen the first few flakes in the air (or was that just very heavy raindrops?), it's time to collect our nuts to get us through the winter. It may seem that we've got plenty of nuts around here already, but there's always room for more. In this case, we need the kind of metaphorical nuts that will keep us sustained through the lean months of the off season. Because of the ongoing outrageous support of our listeners, we're able to present as much as 21 hours of original programming every day. We've got everything from opera to bluegrass, jazz and blues, funk and folk. We've got Democracy Now! and a whole host of talk shows that will keep you informed on things that aren't being discussed anywhere else. Given the diversity of content, if you can't find something that interests you, you may not actually be that interesting. Help us continue to produce that sonic comforter that will keep you warm in the chilly months. Make your pledge today. Thank you very much.

WOMR Presents

If you don't know by now, Jayme Stone is one of the preeminent young stars of acoustic music in North America. He has won numerous awards, and has been hailed as the next Bela Fleck. His latest project features songs collected by the ethnomusicologists John and Alan Lomax in the early and middle 20th century and reinterpreted for a modern audience. Watch the video and you'll have no doubt about the incredible talent that will be on display.

Outermost Radio: The Film

Outermost Radio The Film - Trailer
Outermost Radio The Film - Trailer

We shudder to think about seeing all these faces made for radio splashed across a big screen, but that's what's going to happen. We have faith in the folks at Parallax Productions to make us look as good as we can (or maybe even better than that). It doesn't seem like it's gonna be a big special effects movie, but who knows. Let 's just say that our beauty is of the unconventional variety. Luckily for us, most of you knew that already. In truth, we couldn't be prouder of being the subject of a feature film, and we're throwing a big party to celebrate its release. Look for the limos and red carpets at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater on Saturday April 18. What shall we wear?

Poetry Contest

When Joe Gouveia presented us with the idea of having a poetry contest, none of us had any idea how popular it would become. Now in its third year, the Outermost Poetry contest has been rechristened to honor the memory of its late founder. Joe was an amazing part of our community, and we're lucky to enjoy his legacy in the form of the contest which has become a major part of our fund raising calendar. The deadline for submissions is December 15 and there's $1200 of prize money at stake. Get all of the details on how to submit your work here.

Annual Meeting

Come one, come all. See the astounding inner workings of the business of community radio. Be amazed as new Board members are elected. Thrill to the prospects of  lunch being served. The annual meeting of Lower Cape Communications, Incorporated (that's us) will take place Saturday November 22 at Napi's Restaurant in Provincetown. Lunch is at noon, business at 1pm. Those who are eligible can vote on the matters put to the body politic. Eligible voters should already have received information in the mail regarding the agenda and ballot measures. You can read the report of the Nominating Committee of the Board of Directors here.

The End of an Era

Thanks very much to the departing Steve Milkewicz for his years of service to the station. Outermost Radio will have a little less Rock in it without him. Steve was here from the very earliest days and has held down a number of time slots over the years, most recently Saturday night from 9 to midnight. His relocation to points further South required him to step aside from his beloved spot on the air and he will be greatly missed. Look for someone new to take up residency in that time slot in the weeks ahead.
