Greetings!

Executive Director John Braden
All of you loyal listeners will have noticed that we're in the middle of the summer pledge drive. Or maybe you were so enraptured with the broadcast that it didn't even occur to you that we were asking for money. We certainly understand the mesmerizing power of hearing your friends and neighbors make radio. Thanks very much to those of you who have been able to snap out of your listening euphoria long enough to pledge your support. The more people that pledge, the lighter the load will be for everybody, so tell your friends what a gem we have in community radio. And thanks again for heeding the call. It's you who put the "community" in community radio.

Beachy Keen

You can add to your growing collection of limited-edition WOMR merchandise this summer with your contribution at the sustaining level. It's another in our series of Ellen LeBow designs that we have shamelessly attached to a variety of surfaces. There's no shame in it because the designs are beautiful and they help generate revenue for the station. This lovely beach towel (40" x 70") makes a great companion piece to the blue one we offered last summer. If you're lucky, you have a great companion who can use it the next time you go to the beach together.
Prepare to Jam

This year's Harwich Cranberry Arts & Music Festival is ready to serve up another batch of awesome sauce. The musical lineup focuses exclusively on Cape Cod bands since we're all about local talent here at community radio. The dust may need to settle a bit before we get exact days and times for everyone, but we can say with some degree of certainty that you will be able to hear The Elbows, Grand Public, Steve Morgan and The Kingfish, Monica Rizzio, The Daggers, The Spampinato Brothers, Frank & Chev, 6 East and Link Montana and The Roughriders. The stage will come alive from 11-6 on Saturday, September 13, and 12-5 on Sunday, September 14. There will be food and drink, a crafts fair and bevy of community radio beauties to keep you entertained, so come on out to Brooks Park in Harwich and have some fun with us.

Rock Around The Block

Confidence is high that it's not a sting operation, but the Orleans Police Department has invited Matty Dread and the radio station to be a part of the Orleans Block Party again this year. Matty managed to DJ last year's event without being arrested, so we're hopeful that the event will once again come off without a hitch. Main Street Orleans will be closed to traffic on the evening of Wednesday August 20, as classic car enthusiasts line the street with their show pieces and Matty casts an old-time rock-and-roll vibe. We'd call it a sock hop, but you probably want to keep your shoes on for this one. The Orleans Police and Fire Departments will show off some of their equipment, including this antique cruiser, and there will be live music played by some of the youth of the town.  Come party with us and find out about some of the great things Orleans has got on offer.

The love affair with Orleans continues on Sunday September 28 as WOMR and WFMR once again takes part in the ClamBQ on the lawn of the Odd Fellows Hall. There'll be an authentic Cape Cod clambake and barbeque with live music, a beer and wine garden, kids activities and more. The musical line up has yet to be announced, but Matty Dread will be your emcee and DJ for the day. For more information go to the Orleans Chamber of Commerce website.

Party In Style

It sounded like a great idea at the time. We'll get a few tickets to Fenway and package them with transportation and lodging and have a great promotion to offer our supporters. It turns out that the Red Sox are not having their best year. It turns out that the Cape Air tickets from Hyannis or Provincetown to Logan and the night at the Boston Sheraton are of far greater value. As a result we are rebranding the raffle. It is no longer the Red Sox Raffle. It is now the raffle formerly known as the Red Sox Raffle. It is now a "Night Out in Boston." You can go see a show and have dinner in the North end. Visit the museums. Enjoy everything that Boston has to offer. Just know that you still have to take the Red Sox tickets to the game on Thursday September 25 against the Tampa Rays if you win the raffle. If you're already in Boston, you could use the Cape Air tickets in the opposite direction and get yourself a free ride to the Cape sometime. That would be worth the cost of a raffle ticket alone. Winners announced at the CranJam and on the air September 14.

A Geek's Dream

The WOMR Record Swap is up and running and picking up momentum. If you (or your parents) have a load of vinyl that has been gathering dust, you can put the love back in those records by donating them to the station. We'll give them a hug and list them for sale in our online shop. So now you can  donate your car or boat and your old record collection to help make this thing go. Let us know if you've got something else of value you might want to donate and we'll see if we can take it. Equity and precious metals would be great. Your high school yearbook probably doesn't have as much value.

Community Concierge

calendar
Let us be your guide to what's happening on the Lower and Outer Cape this summer. Perhaps you're just visiting our paradise or maybe you're a native who knows all the back roads. Either way, our events calendar might be able to turn you on to some things that you didn't know were happening. If you know something we don't, you can fill out the form to add an event to the calendar.
