Greetings!

Despite what it looks like outside, what the forecast might say and whether or not that pesky rodent saw his shadow, it definitely feels like winter is almost over around here. Plans are coming together nicely for a whole slate of events to get us through the spring and into the summer. We're having a Mardi Gras party at the Elks club in Eastham, we're once again partnering with the Cape Cod Women's Music Festival which will take place in May, we're proudly presenting Lea DeLaria at Provincetown Hall and we're producing the 4th annual Lower Cape Sprint Triathlon to take place in June. If that's not enough, we're also getting things together for the Harwich Cranberry Arts & Music Festival in September. We haven't forgotten to keep a firm eye on our broadcast schedule, either (we are a radio station, after all). There will be a special day of programming to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8, and we continue to welcome new DJs into our family. There's never a dull moment with Cape Cod's community radio station. But you already knew that.

Let's take things in chronological order. It's not very much like us to take things in any kind of logical order around here, but it's never too late to start. We're having a Mardi Gras Birthday Party at the Elks Club in Eastham on Saturday March 8. The Rip It Ups will be playing from 5 to 8 pm and there will be food and drink and a raffle to help raise money for the station. Come and shake a leg with us as we celebrate our 33rd year of broadcasting excellence.
You'll have a bit of time to recover from that party before it's time for this year's version of the Cape Cod Women's Music Festival. We had an absolute blast working with Sarah Swain on last year's festival, and we're working together even more closely this year to produce another great show. Sarah has worked really hard to build the benefit for women who are battling cancer, and we couldn't be prouder to help her on that noble mission. The show will take place on May 3 at Provincetown Town Hall and will feature some great talent from Cape Cod and beyond. Stay tuned for more details as they develop, and get in touch with us in the office if you'd like to become a sponsor of the show.

International Women's Day
WOMR will continue its tradition of honoring International Women's Day on March 8, 2014 with a day of special programming from midnight to midnight. Pandora, Denya, Dinah and the entire Women's Day committee has done a great job of putting together a schedule that includes interviews and performances with women of note from around the world and right here on Cape Cod. We will honor our commitment to the Metropolitan Opera in the middle of the day, but all of our other regularly scheduled programs will step back to let the women do their thing. Special guests will include Joyce Johnson, Jeannette de Beauvoir, Max Dashu, Zoe Lewis, Cathy Hatch, Althea Waites and Noirin Lynch among others. See the whole schedule here.

More Doings Afoot
Perhaps you can file this under "burying the lead" but we are excited to announce a very big show at Provincetown Town Hall on Saturday May 24. The legendary Lea DeLaria will perform for us in a way that only she can. Lea is reaching a whole new audience through her role in Orange Is The New Black, but she already had an incredibly loyal following developed over many years of work as a comic and a singer. We don't need to tell you that this show will sell out quickly, so stay tuned for details on how to get your tickets while they last. We will have all the details on that very shortly.
We are also very nearly ready to open the registration for this year's Lower Cape Sprint Triathlon. This will be the fourth time in as many years that we have welcomed athletes from Cape Cod and beyond to run, swim and bike with us on some of the most beautiful real estate in the world. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is based around Long Pond in Wellfleet. Many thanks to the Town of Wellfleet and its citizens for their cooperation in helping us to stage what has become an anchor of our fundraising calendar. More details will be available at lowercapetriathlon.org in the near future. |

New Programs and DJs
With a volunteer staff of more than 75 DJs who host shows on a regular basis, there are always some comings and goings. Sunday nights from 9 to midnight have seen a bit of turnover recently. You can now hear Pandora's Jukebox on the last Sunday of each month and The Northern Trawl hosted by Kevin O'Rourke will start airing on the first Sunday of each month in April. You may know Pandora from her talk show Healing Wisdom which airs every Thursday from 9-9:30am, while Kevin has been getting great feedback on the shows that he has guested over the last few months. Tune in to find out what's cool from these crazy kids as they keep things fresh for us on community radio for Cape Cod.
