Change is in the air. It's one of the things we love about living and working where we do. The cycle of the seasons brings a reassuring regularity as well as a captivatingly subtle shift in the scenery on a daily basis. Everything changes and everything remains the same. Or something like that. Things begin to get
philosophical around here as the hibernation season looms around the corner. Festival season isn't quite over yet, however. There are still some choice events to look forward to, and we're still basking in the glow of festivals recently passed. And, of course, things never go into complete stasis even in the deepest, darkest parts of the off-season. You can always come see one of Brad's films, for example. Brad hosts movie night most Thursdays at 7:30pm all through the fall and winter season.

Coming Right Up

WOMR has a long history of celebrating Women's Week in Provincetown with a variety of events and functions. This year will be no different, as we welcome a parade of performers into our Schoolhouse on Wednesday morning October 16 from 9am to 12:30pm. Join us on the radio or in the studio as Char hosts a special edition of Sail Away Ladies featuring no fewer than 10(!) acts doing their thing in the Davis Space. All are welcome to come provide a live studio audience for these women as they deliver the goods to our listening audience on the radio. Many thanks to Mardi Steinau for helping to put this together and keeping everybody on the same page. By the time we catch our breath from the morning's festivities, it will be time to pump it up again as Tylan and Ingrid Elizabeth light up the night for us here at The Schoolhouse. You probably know them from their work in Girlyman and Coyote Grace, respectively, and you'll love what they're getting up to as a duo. We finish the week strong with a performance by Erin McKeown in the Davis Space on Friday night. Please note the 9:00pm start on Erin's show.

Debo Band rips it up at CranJam
September was a fabulous month for a fine day out. Once we got past the madness that is Labor Day Weekend on the Cape, it was time to get ready for the Harwich Cranberry Arts & Music Festival and the Cranberry Jam. The weather could not have been more perfect as we stretched out on the ball field at Brooks Park in Harwich Center. Alex the Jester and the Cape Cod African Drum and Dance team got Saturday off to a great start, while The Incredible Casuals finished the day off with a bang. In between, we were entertained by Grace Morrison and Catie Flynn, two up and coming performers from Cape Cod, as well as Andrea Gillis and Muck and The Mires from Boston. More regional talent was on display on Sunday when Sensible Shoes from Vermont and Adam Ezra and Debo Band from Boston took the stage. All of the bands brought something special to the party, and it was great to make so many new friends. We'll do it again next year.

We also had a blast at the Clam BQ at the Odd Fellows Hall in Orleans on the last Saturday in September. The event was sponsored by the Orleans Chamber of Commerce as part of the
Nauset Surf N' Music Festival. There were plenty of friends all around, including many of the performers. Matty Dread was the emcee for the day, and it was a great chance for us to make new friends at an event that wasn't produced by WOMR. You can bet your bottom dollar that WOMR will part of this event next year too. After all, the Odd Fellows have an old schoolhouse very much like our own. It feels like home away from home.

Rise and Shine

Start your week off right with WOMR and Red Right Return hosted by Justine Alten. Justine had been hosting Sunday nights once a month, and now she's moving to an entirely new time zone. Call her up and wish her well as she introduces her audience to the latest in indie rock and pop. It's like college radio without the college part. It'll be a great way to gather some get up and go for your alternating Monday mornings from 6 to 9am.
Moving into one of the Sunday night spots 9pm to midnight each month is David Sigler and his show, Pop Life. David will continue to produce his Elton John feature Two Rooms, airing each Monday morning from midnight to 1am. David has been a great sub for the station over the last few years, so it's nice to have him move into a regular time slot.

Live Stream Update

Some folks continue to call the office wondering what happened to our live stream. The stream is alive and well, thank you very much. If you're having trouble dialing up in your usual manner, try the following maneuver. Start by deleting the bookmark or other link that you have been using - that link is the one that doesn't work anymore. Then go to womr.org and click on the "Listen Online" tab on the left hand side at the top of our home page. Your player should open up and start playing the stream from our new address. You can then save this address to your player, favorites list or bookmarks. Similarly, if you've got an internet radio. Delete the old listing and search for WOMR all over again. Your device should find our new address. Good as new, and even better.

Old School

Thanks to a very generous donation from listener Paul Berger, your community radio station is going into the record trade. Tony Scungilli is currently sorting through the treasure trove of about 1000 vintage vinyl disks and cleaning them up for resale. It's a music geek's perfect dream. If you've got a closet full of vinyl you'd like to donate to WOMR, we'd be happy to add it to our inventory. We can have some fun looking at your forgotten gems and finding a new home for them. WOMR can benefit from the transaction in the process. It's a win-win-win! Contact Matty in the office if you'd like to arrange for a pick up of your unwanted vinyl.
