Greetings!

This edition of the newsletter brings good news and not-as-good news. We were hoping to be able to proclaim victory over all of the gremlins, but it turns out the little buggers are hard to chase away. On the plus side we were able to get the Kevin Driskel bell tower painted, so our little Schoolhouse is looking better than it has in a while. Look for more workers on the scene over the course of the summer as we rehab the windows and doors that are sorely in need of some TLC. Everyone is invited to contribute to the capital fund to pay for these steps to insure the preservation of our historic property. Aside from fixing and rehabbing the tools of the trade, we're getting excited for a big season of special events to keep everyone fit and fancy. Dance, run, swim, twist and shout with us as we celebrate everything that makes our community so great.

Tower of Power Before and after
The Kevin Driskel bell tower atop the historic Schoolhouse went from a kind of scary haunted house look to a shining beacon of community radio power over the last week of April and into the first week of May. Some very brave workers using some very thick ropes dangled themselves from the peaks and gave the tower a good facelift. These before and after pictures show you just how much the job was needed and how nice it looks now that it's done. The work was made possible in part through generous grants from the Hiebert Foundation and from the Community Preservation Committee of Provincetown. Work to preserve and maintain our beautiful home will continue later this summer when workers return to do some badly needed work on our windows and doors.
The Other Towers

The Orleans tower (with our guys)

Thank goodness the tower at the Schoolhouse is in tip top shape, because our other towers have been downright cranky. In unrelated incidents, the equipment at the Orleans site and at the main Provincetown transmitter on Mt. Gilboa suffered damage over the late winter and early spring, resulting in intermittent outages for both. After installing a brand new transmitter for 91.3FM, that signal has been restored to full strength. You may notice occasional distortion in the signal as a result of the temporary back up link to that transmitter. That distortion will go away once we restore power at 92.1FM. We had a whole slew of experts look at the gear for 92.1FM, and we thought we had the problem licked, until it became apparent that we didn't. The engineers, line guys and equipment folks are all on the job performing tests and operations to get us back to where we need to be. We fully expect to be restored sooner rather than later.
Jumpin' Jambalaya
Brother Joscephus
Join us for a party on June 15 that's sure to give a serious jump start to the summer season as we team up once again with our partners at Payomet Performing Arts Center in Truro to present a voodoo infused, jambalaya fueled jamboree featuring Brother Joscephus and The Love Revolution, Pine Leaf Boys, Robert Graves Leonard's Slippery Sneakers, Jeremy Lyons' Delta Silly, and food from local purveyors (which may include some WOMR/WFMR personalities). It's gonna be an all day affair with several different ticketing options. Stay tuned to WOMR to find out when tickets go on sale. You don't have to wait until then for good live music. Enjoy the fine fettled folk of Brother Sun on June 2 at Wellfleet Preservation Hall. Brother Sun performed for us last year, and we all liked each other so much, we're reprising the experience. Tickets are available now by clicking here.  In other live music news, plans for this year's CranJam at the Harwich Cranberry Arts and Music Festival continue to incubate, while plans for further collaboration with our various partners in the local arts and culture scene percolate. There'll be plenty more aural ecstasy to come. Stay tuned.

Cape Cod Strong

Wouldn't you just know it? When expenses go up with maintenance and repair activities, income goes down due to circumstances beyond our control. While we were in the middle of our spring pledge drive, a couple of crazy people decided they wanted to seriously mess with Boston. A bad mistake on their part, as Boston is one of the proudest places on earth, and was not about to take their nonsense lying down. We needed to set aside our pledge drive as everyone turned their attention to more important things. Now that order has been restored, we need to get back to business as usual. Look forward to some special programming and general community radio goodness as we resume our fund raising activities over Memorial Day weekend. Please do your part to support us in our mission to represent Cape Cod the way no one else can.

The third annual Lower Cape Sprint Triathlon takes place on Saturday June 22 at beautiful Long Pond in Wellfleet. The event has become an anchor of our fund raising calendar and provides an excellent opportunity to get some exercise and support community radio at the same time. Official timing allows more serious competitors to use their performances to qualify for other events, while the good nature of community radio keeps it fun for everyone. If you are part of a business that would like to be a sponsor of the event, get in touch with Myya Beck of Heart Core Fitness.
