Greetings!

John Braden
Interim Executive Director
John Braden

Just when you think you're ready to settle down for a long winter's nap, Mother Nature throws you a serious wake up call. We should know by now that there's never a dull moment in making sure that we keep this thing pointed in the right direction, and this past week surely reinforced that idea. Things are slowly coming back to life here, but we are still running under generator power as I write this. Municipal power came back for a while, but now is gone again. Just this afternoon we reestablished connection with our tower at 91.3 and we hope to have 92.1 back to full power within a couple of days at the most. The internet stream is also back up and running after some storm-related down time, and don't forget that we're available on mobile apps such as TuneIn Radio and the Public Radio Player from PRX. We're all still a little nervy after last year's little tower mishap, but so far the damage seems to be minimal. Fingers and toes are firmly crossed that the parts we have on order will do the trick.

You've Been Met and GreetedLand Ho!

Holy smokes was there one whale of a turnout at the Land Ho! in Harwichport on January 17 as we continued our series of events at local pubs designed to spread the word about Community Radio for Cape Cod. It was easily our biggest night yet in a sign of our growing strength in the mid-Cape area. There were probably as many DJs at this event as at any we've held up to this point, and there were plenty of listeners and supporters as well. Old friendships were rekindled and new alliances were struck as we enjoyed the hospitality of another extremely supportive local business. A big community radio round of applause for the Land-Ho! Harwichport for putting out the munchies and supporting our mission.  Look for another such event possibly in April and possibly in Orleans. It's all part of our ongoing effort to be an indispensable part of the Cape Cod experience.
Upcoming Events Dar Williams

We are excited to welcome Dar Williams back to Cape Cod in a performance to benefit WOMR and Wellfleet Preservation Hall on Saturday March 23. Pres Hall will resonate with the sounds of one of the most lauded singer-songwriters of her generation. Dar will be performing material from her most recent recording, In The Time of Gods, as well as old favorites from her almost two decade career. As a part-time Wellfleet resident, Dar has a deep affection for both Wellfleet Preservation Hall and WOMR that inspired to perform for our benefit. Many thanks to Dar for her generosity. Be sure to get your tickets early as this event is sure to sell out well in advance.

Don't forget that time is winding down on your opportunity to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win Red Nude by Sarah Holl. Tickets are 1 for $10, 3 for $15 or 5 for $20. You can get yours by calling Chris during office hours at 508-487-2619. The drawing will take place on Valentine's Day February 14. It's a great chance to get a great piece of art for a steal. Not literally of course, that would be illegal.

International Women's Day

A day-long celebration of International Women's Day returns to the airwaves of your community radio station on Friday March 8, 2013. Denya LeVine, Mardi Steinau, Dinah Mellin and a whole committee of dedicated volunteers is working hard to put together a very special day of programming that will feature women's voices and their stories. There will be 24 hours of special features, interviews, performances and readings all in honor of International Women's Day. WOMR has had special programming to celebrate the occasion in the past, and with the efforts of these great women, this year promises to be the best ever.

We only do this because we have to. Honestly, it's going to hurt us more than it's going to hurt you. You all have been so fabulous to us over the years that we are going to ask you to be fabulous yet again. It is becoming painfully clear that the small amount of money that we get from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting is getting even smaller. The fact is that we need to depend on it even less than we already do. That's where you come in. Over the weekend of February 15-18 we'll be having a short pledge drive to try to make up the amount that our CPB funding has decreased. Honestly, it would be a tremendous victory if we could
achieve that, but we need to get as close as we can. So do what you can and help us offset the reduction in government funding. With your help, we can be ready for the day when there is no CPB grant at all.
  Pledge now.
