Rt. Rev. Dabney T. Smith to Wed  
Mary Wallis of Melbourne


PARRISH - The Rt. Rev. Dabney T. Smith, Bishop of the Diocese of Southwest Florida, announced today that he will marry Mary Wallis of Melbourne in a private family ceremony this June.

 

The Rt. Rev. Smith is the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Southwest Florida; Mrs. Wallis is the Director of Advancement for Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne.

 

Mrs. Wallis, the former executive director of the Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street, is the Director of Advancement for Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy. She is a graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park and serves on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Space Coast Chapter.

 

The Rt. Rev. Smith was consecrated Bishop in March 2007. Prior to his election, he was rector of Trinity Church, New Orleans, La. He has also served at Holy Trinity in Melbourne, St. Michael and All Angels in South Bend, Ind. and Grace Church in Port Orange. Smith holds a B.A. from University of South Florida; an M. Div. from Nashotah House; and a D. Min. from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary.

 

The two are both widowed. The Rt. Rev. Smith's late wife Mary Ellen Smith died in 2012. Mrs. Wallis' late husband Michael M. M. Wallis died in 2000. Mrs. Wallis was a dear and cherished friend of Mary Ellen Smith for 15 years, until her death.

 

The Rt. Rev. Smith is the son of the Rev. Dorsey and Dorothy Smith, both deceased. He has three children; son Dabney (affianced to Janet Raymer) and daughters Ashton Williston, (Mrs. Joseph Williston) and Alicia Caputo (Mrs. Jeffrey Caputo), as well as grandchildren Miss Emma Caputo and Misses Isabella and Abigail Williston.

 

Mrs. Wallis, the daughter of Mr. George and Mary Grodhaus of Wheeling, West Virginia, has two adult children, Megan Elizabeth (Meg) Wallis and Andrew Bennett (Ben) Wallis.

 

Both lifelong Episcopalians, they will be wed at St. James Ormond Beach on Sunday, June 23, 2013, where the Rt. Rev. Smith's father was rector.
