PARRISH - On Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, Diocesan Council approved a one-time payment of $171,750 to congregations who have fully participated in their 2012 apportionment.
The total of $171,750 will be distributed among those congregations who have paid their 2012 apportionment in full by January 31, 2013. The amount of each congregation's gift will be determined based on its percentage of the total operating apportionment paid for 2012. We anticipate the gift will be roughly equivalent to 75% of one month's operating apportionment payment.
In a letter to congregations, Bishop Dabney Smith said that the action came because in 2012 the Diocese "continued to show faithful financial stewardship and participation in the life of the diocese with timely apportionment payments throughout the year."
For 2012, the Diocese had budgeted an eight percent expense allowance for uncollectible apportionments, which was not fully needed. "This is a sign of the good health and financial responsibility of our congregations," said Smith.
This is the second time the Diocese of Southwest Florida has returned apportionment monies to their congregations. Parish offices with questions may call Anne Vickers, Chief Financial Officer, at (941) 556-0315.
