Hi All,

I have been very remiss with the newsletter the last few months and I do apologize. I know everyone can't wait to get them! :-)

I hope everyone is doing well, writing up a storm and getting lots of sales and placements. As you know we all recently had a quarterly PRO payment and that's always a happy time.

Lately I have been spending a lot of time reconciling my

bills_coins.jpgBMI statements with cue sheets. While it's very hard to get cue sheets when you have music signed with a library, I recently met someone who has provided me with cue sheets and educated me on how broken and opaque the system is. I am astounded by the mistakes that are made with underpayments, incorrect payments and missing payments. It takes a lot of time to dig out the details but because most TV shows re-run for many years, it pays to follow through. There is a lot of money being left on the table and well worth going after!
Music Thievery On The Internet
You may not be aware of it but more and more cases are popping up of people buying (or stealing) music from one library and then uploading to another music library claiming it as their own. It's a sad state of affairs but if there is any good news, it's that the latest person to get caught was tripped up by the YouTube Content ID program. This particular character had over 3000 songs under different aliases. Now he may have actually composed some of them, but the end result was that they were all taken down. Read about it here.

Robin's Good Eatin'
Very Simple Blueberry Muffins

I ran across this recipe on Food.com when I was getting ready for company and had nothing to serve with our tea.  It had to be quick and it had to be good.  Check and Check! They're not overly sweet, which to me is a good thing.  Feel free to experiment, of course.  Maybe add some vanilla or cinnamon or some sliced almonds?  Or?  Enjoy!

Robin's Yoga For The Stressed-Out Composer

Yoga for Tired Hands

If you play keyboards or guitar or spend lots of time typing emails, you might suffer from fatigue or stiffness in your fingers, hands and wrists sometimes. Our hands do so much for us that it's easy to take them for granted. Here are a couple of moves that might help alleviate stiffness and fatigue. (Note: I'm not talking about a more serious condition such as carpal tunnel syndrome.  This is for mild discomfort.)

To begin with, extend your right arm and bend the elbow at a right angle so that the fingertips are pointed towards the ceiling.  Now with the left hand gently press the right fingertips back just until you feel a stretch on the inside of the right wrist.  Don't overdo! Hold for a breath or two. Now extend the right arm and using your left hand, press the back of the right hand back downward until you feel a stretch on the top side of the right wrist.  Hold for a breath or two.  Now reverse sides. This should feel really good, but remember to take it easy.  We're just looking for a gentle stretch.

You can make wrist circles too. Simply extend your arms straight out in front of you and make a soft fist, as if holding on to the hot and cold water handles in the shower. Use the same circular motion you would for turning the water on and off.  Slowly inhale, twist outward, slowly exhale twist inward.  Repeat two or three times.  Relax the fingers and the wrist and shake out the hands.

For stiff or tired fingers, hold both hands out in front of you, elbows bent at right angles, fingers extended upward.  Now make a circle of the thumbs and forefingers and flick the forefinger as if you were trying to shake some water off of your fingers.  Repeat this motion with the third, fourth and fifth fingers touching the thumb and then "flicking the water off". Now repeat starting with the pinky and working your way back to the forefinger. Wiggle your fingers out.

After a nice back stretch and maybe some shoulder rolls, go back to creating beautiful music feeling refreshed and revitalized. Namaste!
