Hi All,

Looks like Spring has finally arrived here. It's not like we have the worst weather in the world but living by the ocean in SoCal is much cooler than living even a few miles inland. On some summer days we can be as much as 30 degrees cooler! Being from New England I much prefer this weather.

A couple of weeks ago the BMI quarterly payment came in. Here's hoping yours was satisfying and growing
!

MLR continues to attract more and more composers from around the world and it's a thrill to see it grow. I learn as much as anyone from the collective wisdom of all of our members and visitors!

Metadata and Tagging Your Music
Marina from TagTeamAnalysis recently posted some great tips on effective tagging of your music. Here's an excerpt:

Music Keywording Techniques

This is a brief guide to help artists create for themselves, a tagging protocol for their music library.  After tagging music for Pandora and currently tagging and collecting metadata for licensing companies, I have gained some important and vital techniques for music keywording/tagging.

Joke Corner
The Mozart Effect: Makes a child smarter and more mathematical along with a higher IQ

The Haydn Effect: Child is witty and quick on his feet, quite often bringing a grin to the faces of those around him. Despite this he exhibits remarkable humility.

The Bach Effect: Child memorizes Scripture and says his prayers every day; may overwhelm listeners with his speech.

The Handel Effect: Much like the Bach Effect; in addition, the child may exhibit dramatic behavior.

The Beethoven Effect: Child develops a superiority complex and is prone to violent tantrums; is a perfectionist.

The Liszt Effect: Child speaks rapidly and extravagantly, but never really says anything important

The Bruckner Effect: Child speaks very slowly and repeats himself frequently. Gains a reputation for profundity.

The Grieg Effect: This child is quirky yet cheery. May be prone toward Norwegian folklore.

The Wagner Effect: Child becomes a megalomaniac. Speaks for six hours at a stretch.

Robin's Good Eatin'
CLEMENTINE CLAFOUTIS
(From The Minimalist Cookbook by Mark Bittman.)

What can I say? Utterly delicious, decadent, and ridiculously easy. Perfect for impressing your guests!

Preheat oven to 350.

Whisk together 3 eggs, a pinch of salt
Add ¾ cup milk
Add ¾ cup cream (I've used half-and-half, which works fine.)

Mix together dry ingredients:

½ cup sugar
½ cup flour

Beat the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients quickly. Lumps are okay, they'll cook out.

Pour batter over a deep pie dish of Clementine (orange) sections.

Bake at 350 for ½ hour to 45 minutes (until the top is browned)

Let it sit for 15 minutes to 1 hour.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Robin's Yoga For The Stressed-Out Composer

Chair Forward Fold

  Chair Forward Fold

You might be surprised to learn that many yoga poses can be modified so that you can do them seated on a chair.  This can be especially useful if you're at work or pressed for time.

Here's How:  Sit on a sturdy, stable chair (NOT a rolling chair) with a little space from the back of the chair. You can position the back of the chair against a wall for stability. Sit up tall on your sit bones, feet pointed straight ahead, shoulders relaxed. Cross your arms on your thighs to make a pillow for your head.  If you're more flexible and would like to go deeper you may want to hold on to opposite elbows below the knee. Your arms should not dangle in the air.  Now begin to hinge forward from the hip. Stop if you have any discomfort in the low back. When you feel that your back is fully, but comfortably extended, allow your head to drop.  You may feel the spine extend a little more as gravity gives you a delicious passive stretch all along your spine.  Stay there for at least 30 seconds, breathing slowly and deeply into your back body.  Come up slowly, using your hands on your thighs.

Caution
:  If you have low back issues, this may not be the right pose for you. Consult your healthcare practitioner if you have had back surgery, high or low blood pressure, or glaucoma, before attempting any forward fold, especially one with your head below your heart.
